AIRBAG SYSTEM (DIAGNOSTICS)General Description
3. General Description
A: CAUTION When servicing a vehicle, be sure to turn the ig-nition switch to OFF, disconnect the ground cablefrom battery, and wait for more than 20 secondsbefore starting work.
The airbag system is equipped with a backuppower source. If the airbag system is serviced with-in 20 seconds from the ground cable is disconnect-ed, it may inflate.
If sensors, airbag module, airbag control module, pretensioner and harness are deformed or dam-aged, replace them with new parts.
Do not use the airbag system and pretensionerson other vehicles. When replacing parts, be sure toreplace them with new ones. When checking the airbag system, be sure touse a digital circuit tester. Use of an analog circuittester may cause the airbag to activate erroneous-ly.
When checking, use a test harness (1). Do notdirectly apply the tester probe to any connector ter-minal of the airbag.
Do not drop the airbag module, subject them tohigh temperature over 93C (199F), or let water, oil or grease get on them; the internal parts may bedamaged and reliability is greatly lowered.
