On May 23, a large group of senior citizens attended our cookout, despite the threat of thunderstorms that day. Because of the forecast, the cookout was held at the center. Leon Garton offered his grill and Steve Burgess and Kenny Herndon cooked all the food. The Living with Chronic Conditions class will meet on June 27 from 9 a.m. to 10:30 a.m. at the Senior Center in Huntingdon. Gwen Joyner, with the UT Ag Extension Program, teaches the class. The class focuses on how to deal with chronic conditions such as arthritis and diabetes, among others. If you have been diagnosed with a chronic condition, this is a valuable class to join. Our senior ladies are enjoying being pampered by the manicures Mary provides. It is a free service to persons 60 years or older. If you are interested, please call and book an appointment for Friday between 1 p.m. and 4 p.m. This month's add-a-dish luncheon was held on June 9 at 11:30 a.m. Despite the very hot, humid weather, several came to enjoy good home cooking and fellowship with friends. Warren and Carrie Sanders celebrated birthdays in June. They will be celebrating their anniversary later this month. Congratulations to Betty Hart, Clarence Norman and James Milton for bringing home gold medals from the Northwest Tennessee District Senior Olympics. Hart won three gold medals in track and field events. Norman and Milton won gold medals in bowling doubles. They advance to the Tennessee State Senior Olympics held in Franklin, Tennessee in July. We look forward to their continued success. We wish them luck. We are very proud of them. Sadly, after several years of entertainment, the Tri County Boys will no longer be playing for seniors the third Thursday night of each month. They have truly been a blessing to all who came to listen to their music. They will be missed very much. There will be a Father's Day breakfast to honor our senior men on Monday, June 20 at 8 a.m. It is free of charge and there is room available for a few more people. If you would like to attend, you must call by Thursday, June 16. Sue Alexander will be teaching a Basket-weaving class on June 21 at 9 a.m. For more information on this class, you may contact Sue Alexander at 986-9162. A trip to Pinson Mounds is planned for June 23. The cost will be $7 to ride the van plus the cost of your lunch. We will leave at 8:30 a.m. and return at approximately 4 p.m. Seats are still available; if you would like to go, please give us a call. Don't forget our regular activities which include games such as bingo, Rook, high five, billiards and bowling. We also have blood pressure checks on Wednesday at 1 p.m. Any suggestions on new activities are welcome. Hours of operation are Monday through Friday from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. If you have suggestions for new activities, contact us at 986- 1985 or visit. We hope to see you soon!
