We have removed cable for routeclearance, permit requirements, and theremoval of out-dated oil-filled cables. Thecable materials can be salvaged for scrap,if of value, but will always be disposed ofproperly in an environmentallyacceptable manner.

We have installed High & Medium VoltagePower cables, Telecommunication cablesand Fiber Optic cables throughout NorthAmerica. Our cables have been installedon the East Coast, West Coast, Gulf Coast,Caribbean, Great Lakes, Inland Lakes, andCanada. Whether the cables have beendelivered on reels, in tubs that require aturntable, or coiled on a lay vessel. Wehave the ability and experience to get theproject accomplished.

Our jet sleds are capable of burial to 4meters. These sleds use high pressurewater to liquefy the trench for the cableinstallation. The sleds cause near zeroturbidity and are environmentallyfriendly. They are fitted with the latestunderwater technology to continuouslymonitor the cable burial and installationin real time. These technologies includelook ahead sonar, heave, pitch and roll, and GPS tracking sensors.

Carefully landing the cable ends andsecuring them can be a critical part of aninstallation. We self-perform trenchexcavation, winching & cable pulling, backfilling, and vault installation.

At times, subsea cables are inherentlyexposed to a variety of risks. We’veinstalled a multitude of devices to protectcables from those dangers. These includeinstalling bolt-on cast iron split pipe cableprotectors in the surf zone wheretrenching wasn’t possible and in shallowareas where trenching wasn’t allowed. Wehave also placed articulated concrete matsto cover cables for protection and toseparate cables from other utilities likepipelines.

Subsea cables are in a high riskenvironment. Over the years we havebeen involved in several cable repairs.Ships dragging anchor account for themajority of these repairs. DurocherMarine has completed 10+ major cablerepairs in water depths exceeding 200ft.

Our portable turntable has a capacityto hold 1,000 tons. The turntable caneasily be trucked and assembled whereneeded to meet project demands. Theturntable is presently 39 ft. in diameter.

Kokosing’s “DP2 System” includes a number ofpropulsion units acting together to achieveaccurate and reliable station keeping. The DP2control system is a Kongsberg K-Pos DP-21.Propulsion is provided by six (6) ThrustMaster500 horse power Modular Hydraulic OutboardPropulsion Units consisting of modular deckmounted azimuthing thrusters, with separatediesel-hydraulic power units and controls.

We have three portable linear cablemachines. Each have remote controlsand a maximum line pull of 12,000 lbs.The units can be configured as a singleunit to increase line pull or synchronizedto work as a single unit. The units areeasily trucked to the project site.

Our larger jet sled is portable andcapable of handling a 5 meter burialtooth. The sled is equipped with digitalsensors to accurately record all burialdata in real time.

Our smaller jet sled is portable andcapable of burial to 2 meters with similarburial recording capacity.

Both sleds are environmentally friendlybecause they create near zero turbidityin the water and have negligible impactto the seabed.

PROJECT: Subsea installation ofthree 230kV transmission andfiber optic cables between thePotrero and EmbarcaderoSubstations in San Francisco, CA.

The 1,000 ton turntable wasutilized to install the 3 cablesfurnished in individual tubsweighing 320 tons. Cables wereinstalled and buried one at a time.

The lay barge winched the 5 13/16”diameter power and fiber opticcable to the Potrero Substationashore through a pre-installedpipe conduit then simultaneouslylaid and buried to a depth ofbetween 6 and 10 feet by thewater jet plow. At the second end,2100 linear feet of cable wasfloated on air bags and winchedto shore through a pipe conduitto the Embarcadero Substation. This process was then repeatedtwo more times.

PROJECT: Replacement of sevenoil-filled single conductor cableswith three 138 kV triplex powertransmission cables betweenNorwalk, Connecticut andNorthport, Long Island, NewYork.

Replacement began with theremoval of seven 12 mile longoil-filled single conductor cables(84 total miles). Our marine crewsremoved the cable and deliveredit for salvage to the owner.

Inside the 3 replacement cableswas a 24 fiber optic element. The9” diameter cables weighed70 lb/ft. The 7,000 tons of cablewas delivered, handled, laid, andburied. Each cable was buriedpost-lay.

The North landing requiredcrossing a small island with eachcable. Our lay barge was set upwith a turntable that allowed thedelivery ship to offload and float1.3 miles of cable across theisland to our barge where it wasloaded onto the turntable. Onceloaded, each cable was laid andburied in the shallow water toshore. This process was repeatedfor each cable.

PROJECT: McLean’s MountainWind Farm, Manitoulin Island,Ontario Canada. Installation ofthree 115 kV Armored ElectricCables from Little Current,Ontario across the Little CurrentChannel to the Mainland.

The wind farm is rated toproduce 60MW of electricity from24 GE 2.85MW turbines. Gettingpower to the Provincial Gridrequired crossing the 2,000 ftLittle Current Channel betweenManitoulin and Goat Islands withthree 115kV subsea power cablesand grounds.

Both shorelines requiredextensive excavation toguarantee adequate trenchdepth for the cables. The northshore required 860 ft of ductbank cut into rock. At each end,the subsea cables wereterminated at junction boxes. The cables were laid individually.Upon completion of installingthe cables a stone sub-base,cable separators, and articulatedconcrete mats were added toprotect the exposed cablescrossing the channel.

PROJECT: Subsea Power CableInstallations for the VirginIsland Water and PowerAuthority (VIWAPA).

The first project includedinstallation of 18,000 ft of 35kvsubsea power cable from St.Thomas to St. Johns. Thesecond project occurred sevenyears after the initialinstallation and paralleled theprevious installation. It was also18,000 ft of 35kv cable.

Both projects were completedin environmentally sensitiveareas. Care was taken to avoidcoral reefs and other sensitiveareas within the cable laycorridor. Both cables were laiddirectly on bottom fromshoreline to shoreline. No burialwas required. Near shore thecables were buried in a trenchand cable protectors wereinstalled to protect the cable inthe shallow water seaward ofthe trench.
