Success Stories and Innovative Initiatives undertaken by Oil India Limited (OIL) as part of the
implementation of the Swachhta Action Plan for 2017-18
As part of the implementation of the Swachhta Action Plan for 2017-18, the following Innovative
Initiatives were undertaken by the company:
1. Adoption of Kamakhya Temple for maintenance and upkeep, under the “Swachh Iconic Places”
initiative of the Government of India {OIL has been entrusted with the project on development of the
Kamakhya Temple Complex as a Swachh Iconic Place}
The foundation stone for development of Kamakhya Temple Complex as a Swachh Iconic Place was laid
on 9th December, 2017, at Kamakhya, Guwahati.
The total cost of project is Rs 25.00 Crore covering 10(Ten) different infrastructural development works
as well as maintenance, spread over a period of 5(five) years. These development works shall not only
enhance the swachhata or cleanliness of the temple but shall also lead to its beautification and enhance
the convenience of its devotees and pilgrims. The project is being coordinated by Assam Tourism
Development Corporation (ATDC) and is being executed by Public Works Department, Government of
Assam.
3 . Street Plays : OIL engaged “ Kothia Mime & Drama Academy ” , a well - known Duliajan , Assam based
cultural group for staging street plays in 50 schools on the subject of Swachh Bharat Mission with focus
on school children, at the schools where OIL had constructed toilets in the districts of Tinsukia and
Dibrugarh in Assam. OIL launched the Street Pl a y on 29th July, 2017 with performances in OIL market
followed by Daily Bazar and Bhawani Gogoi Market at Duliajan, Assam. Subsequently these Street Plays
were held across schools in upper Assam in and around OIL ’ s oper ational areas, in due course of time and
help ed spread the message on Swachhta among school children and local people in these areas .
5 . Distribution of Jute Bags Jute Bag : s were distributed to officers and employees, as part of the “ Say No
to Polythene ” Campaign at Fields Headquarters, Duliajan and in Calcutta Branch Office. The Jute bags
were also distributed among local people in the vicinity of the Calcutta Branch Office . This exercise was
carried out to encourage the use of alternative means of carrying goods, instead of using Polythene
( Pla stic)
6 . Drawing Competition: School children participated in the Drawing Competition under the Swachhta
Pakhwada at schools in Fields Headquarters, Duliajan, Assam. The theme of the competition was 'My
Clean School' and 'Clean India - healthy India' . The exercise was aimed at bringing out the creativity of
young school children on one of the most important values that they should imbibe while growing up,
i.e. on the significance of cleanliness and hygiene, at home, and outside in th e public spaces, so that
they can become aware and disciplined citizens of the future.
7 . The Swachhta Pledge was taken by all employees of the company, in its different spheres during the
observance of Swachhta Pakhwada and Cleanliness Drives & Awareness Programmes were u ndertaken in
and around the housing colonies, office premises, public places, markets , etc. around OIL establishments.
8 . OIL provided the funding for construction of 10 nos. of toilets in the Satras in Majuli , Assam, 6 nos. of
public toilets in Itanagar, Arunachal Pradesh, and 3 nos. of public toilets in Dibrugarh district, Assam
9 . OIL funded construction of 1500 nos. of toilets in the Dibrugarh district, under the Project, “ Open
Defecation Free District ” .
10 . OIL supported the maintenance of 927 nos. of school toilets constructed as part of the Swachha
Vidyalaya Abhiyan (funded by OIL) in the districts of Dibrugarh, Jorhat, Sivasagar, Barpeta, Bongaigaon,
and Dhubri.
