ONE OF THE LARGEST WATERWORKS IN SINGAPORE, POWERED BY SOLAR
As part of Singapore’s effort to explore alternative and sustainable energy sources to develop itself into a smart energy economy, the national water agency PUB has started a pilot project to harness solar power with the installation of Yingli solar panels on the rooftop of Choa Chu Kang Waterworks for the plant’s water treatment operations.
With a roof space spanning an area 6,700 square meters, the project utilises around 3,420 pieces of Yingli 300Wp high efficiency multicrystalline modules generating approximately 1.1 Gigawatt hours (GWh) of electricity per annum which is equivalent to the average annual energy consumption of 250 HDB households.

The energy will be used to power a portion of the plant’s lighting,
air-conditioning and water treatment operations amounting to 7 per-
cent of its average daily energy consumption and reducing carbon
dioxide emission by some 500 tonnes every year and an annual
savings of S$300,000.
The 1 MW PV project is owned and managed by RCS Engineering
Pte Ltd who sells the clean energy to Public Utilities Board (PUB) over
a 20 year lease period. SolarGy has been engaged by RCS to do the
installation and maintenance.
KEY BENEFITS OF THE SYSTEM
• One of the largest waterworks in Singapore powered by solar
• The solar project will be able to generate approximately
1.1GWh of clean electricity which is equivalent to the average
electricity consumption of approximately 250 HDB housing in
Singapore.
• Offset an estimated 500 tonnes of carbon dioxide (CO2)
emission every year or the equivalent of planting 25,000 trees
• An annual savings of S$300,000
• Proven long-term performance of Yingli multicrystalline panels
ensures ongoing high energy yields
• Yingli panels’ unique ability to perform well in varying
temperature, high humidity and cloudy conditions.
• Yingli modules have an outstanding price/ performance rate and
a higher output power than expected.
