OFFICERS
Knights of Columbus
Vol. 14 No. 8 February 2015 SUFFOLK CHAPTER NEWS
From the Chapter Chairman’s Desk … My Brothers: I don’t know about you but I am already tired of SNOW! I cannot wait for Spring like weather. I hope everyone had a glorious New Year. Please be safe and keep warm.
This past month we held our Charity Drive Kick-Off meeting which was well
received by all. What we need now is for every Council and Columbiette Auxiliary to get behind this and make this a huge success. Not only does it help our major recipient this year but also the other programs and charities the chapter sponsors. I know in my heart that Paul and his committee will do a great job! Thank you Amelia Joseph for a good representation from the Chapter Columbiettes. Thanks go out to Bishop McGann Council for hosting this!
As you know I have rejuvenated our Fraternal Weekend which will be held
March 6-8, 2015. I hope you all decided to join us at Woodloch Pines in the Poconos. Everything you need to register is on our website. You deal directly with the resort and all the Chapter wants is the form that is also on the website returned to myself or DD Carmine Soldano. Please, I hope we can make this a successful Fraternal weekend. The cost is $375 pp including tax and gratuities. We will also be having a Mass which will be celebrated by our own Father Augustine (Gus) Fernando. I would like to try and push our Charity Drive book sales also at the Fraternal Weekend. Hope To See You All There - Please!!
As you know the Chapter will be starting up a 300 Club to fund the FAC program
starting in July. DD Phil Maniaci is taking monies ($50) and number request. For more information please contact Vice Chairman George Lundin or DD Phil Maniaci,
Our next Chapter meeting will be held at St. Joseph the Worker Council #12993
at 510 Naragansett Avenue, East Patchogue. It’s on the corner of Atlantic and Naragansett in Parish Center, east of Sills Road (CR101). Take Sills Road (CR101) south to Montauk Hwy, make a left, take it to Naragansett and make a left and go one block. It will be on your left. See You There!
Don’t forget February 14 is Valentine’s Day so don’t forget our wives or significant others. After all if it weren’t for them we wouldn’t be able to do the things we do for the
Order.
God Bless You All!
God Bless America!

My Dear Sister Columbiettes, As I sit here and jot these few lines down, we are in the midst of experiencing the thrusts of Blizzard Juno. I hope you are all keeping safe and staying indoors when possible.
Our By-laws committee, chaired by Ronny Pliszak, Supreme Advocate, have presented their revisions and we have voted accepting them unanimously. Revised By-laws will be available shortly. Thank you to Ronny and her committee for doing a great job.
Our Komforters for Kids program turned out to be a bigger success than we could ever anticipate. Anne Marie Callahan, ever so softly suggested we consider doing something for the Little Flower Orphanage in Wading River this year, and as they say, the rest is history. To top off the 147 comforters which were donated by not only our Sister Columbiettes, but our Brother Knights too, with a suggestion made by the New York State Treasurer, John G. Joseph, our New York State Knights of Columbus Council donated 21 cases of coats for the orphans of Little Flower! To say the least, we kept the children warm and toasty this winter! When united, we can do amazing things! Great job to all but a special thanks to Anne Marie for bringing a great idea to the table!
Our annual Birthright Baby Shower will take place at our February meeting at Resurrection of our Lord in Farmingville. The date is February 16, 2015. We will begin with refreshments and presentations at 7:30 p.m. with our meeting starting at 8:00 p.m. Please note the time change and remember to bring new, unwrapped baby items. Ladies, please remember we are in need of girls to help with the set up and the clean up and we look forward to your donations towards refreshments. I know we can always count on your support and cooperation.
Our Spring Fling is well on the way! Our Past Presidents are ready to offer you a great raffle and raise some money for our charities! You have received a letter explaining the details and they are looking forward to receiving your donations in support of their efforts! Raffle tickets for the TV will be available at our February meeting! The 50/50, Lottery Tree, and TV will be raffled off at our April meeting! We look forward to seeing you there!
Our Communion Breakfast is being held on Sunday, April 19, 2015 at St. Sylvester. Details are in this newsletter. As always, we will be hosting the raffle in support of the Charity Drive! Your donations to support our basket raffle are greatly appreciated. You can begin to bring them to the February meeting!
Our Spring Major Degree will be held on Tuesday, April 28, 2015 at Patchogue #725. Letters will soon be sent to all Auxiliary Presidents. We look forward to having these wonderful Catholic women join us in our ranks.
I wish to take this opportunity to thank you for your support to Telecare, the best in Catholic TV. As you heard at our meeting, many of our Columbiettes appreciate the opportunity to watch not only daily Mass, but Sunday Mass as well which is great when they cannot get to church. The Building His Dream Show supports the great work of the Knights of Columbus. I was honored to be on a show in support of our Suffolk Chapter and the great work we do. I will be on another show in support of Catholic School Support on Friday, February 6, 2015 beginning at 7:00 p.m. sharp. It is a 5 minute show, so be sure not to miss it. You can view it on Channel 296 on FIOS; Channel 29 on Nassau and Suffolk Cablevision; Channel 137 on Cablevision; and Channel 471 on Time Warner. You can also view it on the web at www.telecaretv.org If you miss the February 6 showing, it will rebroadcast on Monday at 9:15 a.m. and 7:15 p.m., Tuesday at 9:00 a.m. and 7:00 p.m. and Wednesday at 9 :15 a.m. I hope you get a chance to watch the show and I look forward to hearing your comments.
As I sign off with wishes from the Officers and myself for a Happy Valentine’s Day, I ask that you share with us one reason why you like being a Columbiette! Email me your responses – [email protected].
Fraternally,
Amelia Joseph

8- It’s easy and convenient, takes less than one hour.
7- Most people have blood to spare yet there is never enough to go around.
6- Nobody will ask you to do heavy lifting while you have the bandage on.
5- You will walk a little taller afterwards, you will feel good about yourself.
4- You will help ensure that blood will be available when someone needs it.
3- It is something you can do on an equal footing with the rich and famous.

In 1954, lobbying by the Order of the Knights of Columbus
helped convince the U.S. Congress to add the phrase "under
God" to the Pledge of Allegiance. President Dwight
Eisenhower wrote to Supreme Knight Luke E. Hart thanking
the Knights for their "part in the
movement to have the words 'under God'
added to our Pledge of Allegiance." “I pledge allegiance to the flag of the United
States of America, and to the republic for which it stands, one nation under God,
indivisible, with liberty and justice for all. ”

PLEASE EXPEDITE
Prayer for the Canonization of Father Michael J. McGivney God, our Father, protector of the poor and defender of the widow and orphan, you called your priest, Father Michael J. McGivney, to be an
apostle of Christian family life and to lead the young to the generous service of their neighbor. Through the example of his
life and virtue may we follow your Son, Jesus Christ, more closely, fulfilling his commandment of charity and building up
his Body which is the Church. Let the inspiration of your servant prompt us to greater confidence in your love so that we
may continue his work of caring for the needy and the outcast. We humbly ask that you glorify your servant
Father Michael J. McGivney on earth according to the design of your holy will. Through his intercession, grant the favor
I now present (here make your request). Through Christ our Lord. Amen. Our Father, Hail Mary, Glory be to the Father.
