Pedagogy
(method of
teaching)
Suggestopedia
SUGGESTOPEDIA• He created a method for learning that
capitalized on relaxed states of mind for
maximum retention of material.
• Provides high result in learning to speak
foreign language 25 times faster than any
other conventional method.
NO SUCH THING AS BRAIN LIMITATIONS!
• As human, we believes that our brain have limits in
receiving information.
• But, instead we are actually capable of learning much
more than we give ourselves credit.
• We learners of other language often think it
is overwhelmingly difficult and we sets a
mindset that we can never be successful.
- Marcus Aurelius
• In application of Suggestopedia in foreign language learning, Lozanov and
his followers have experimented with the presentation of:
– Vocabulary
– Readings
– Dialogues
– Role plays
– Dramas
– And various ways of teaching
• Students are encouraged to be as childlike as possible.
First Concert–“Active Concert”
• This involves the active presentation of the
material to be learnt. For example, in a foreign
language course there might be the dramatic
reading of a piece of text, accompanied by
classical music.
Second Concert–“Passive Review”
• The students are now invited to relax and
listen to some Baroque music, with the text
being read very quietly in the background.
The music is specially selected to bring the
students into the optimum mental state for
the effortless acquisition of the material.
ACTIVITY
ADVANTAGES
• Students can lower their affective filter.
• Classes are held in ordinary rooms with comfortable
chairs, a practice that may also help them relaxed.
• Students remember best and are most influenced by
information coming from an authoritative source,
teachers.
DISADVANTAGES
• Environment limitation: Most schools in developing
countries have large classes. Each class consists of 30 to 40
students. There should be 12 students in the class.
• Infantilization learning: Suggestopedia class is conditioned
be child-like situation. There are some students who do not
like to be treated like this as they think that they are mature.
CONCLUSION OF THE TOPIC SUGGESTOPEDIA
• Learning is facilitated in a pleasant,
comfortable environment.
• The material used should be varied
and playful to activates or stimulates
student’s brain.
• Suggestopedia promotes a relax form of
learning/not pressuring method of learning.
• Students just have to sit back and enjoy the rest of
the class.
“The more confident the students feel, the better
they’ll learn”
