I have learned in these magazine that it is conventional to have text/images in the left third. I have also learned that it is conventional in these magazine to have the main image overlapping the mast head. I have also learned that magazines that have a mixed genre, will have all information about the artist on the front cover, in quite an ordered layout. Also if the artist is a man, then the texts will be more sans serif, and if the artist on the front cover is female the text will be more serif. It is also conventional to have the text surround the main image of the artist, this makes the magazine look better as a whole and stand out more. It’s also conventional to have larger fonts for the cover stories and the mast head and smaller text for the other stories. The mast head being at the top is also conventional.

Conventions of form:

It is conventional for a pop genre as they’re all mainly going to be pop artists and stories on the front cover. It is also conventional to have bright fun colours on the front cover of the magazine. The clothes the artists wear are always in style and in fashionable, which is conventional for the pop genre.

It is also conventional for the pop genre to have the artist do quite a cool, casual, fun pose. Its also conventional to have an ordered layout for the pop genre.

The language is more calm and more chatty and informal, this is conventional for a pop genre magazine as there are younger audience . The magazine’s mode of address is also represented through the colours as its a chilled vibe, and are quite colourful. The images are also casual and playful and represents the magazine to be fun and young too, which is conventional for a pop magazine as it needs to have that pop playful edge to it. The colours represent this magazine to be more happy and colourful. The language they use in these magazine is to appeal to the younger audience. Use Of Technical Elements

Fonts: The fonts on the magazines I have analysed are all a mixture of serif and sans serif fonts to appeal to both female and male target audience which is conventional for a pop magazine as it can appeal to both genders. Some of the fonts, mainly the main stories are much larger, and they say who the artist on the front page actually is for example on the magazines I analysed they said on the front page ‘Justin Bieber’ , ‘Robin Thicke’ and ‘Katy Perry’, this is conventional as people would want to know who the main story is about if they don’t recognise the actual artist. Each magazine cover have a different style font to go with the front cover and the main story. The fonts are smaller for the less important cover lines which is also conventional for a magazine cover.

Layout: From the magazines I have analysed the layout on all of the magazines are using the route of the eye which is used to grab to audience’s eye. The left third is also used on all the magazines which is conventional for a music magazine. They use the mast head at the top of the magazine also.

Camerawork: From the magazines I have analysed the camerawork is used by using the mid shots, which is conventional so you can easily see the artist and what they wear. The artist is always going over the mast head which makes them seem more powerful as artists, this is also conventional. The text around the main image all fits in perfectly, this is conventional for a magazine as it looks more neat and ordered. The text around the images also are squashed together to get more information on the front cover.

Mise-en-scene: Most of the magazine covers I have analysed used mise en scene in the props, lighting, costumes, setting and make up. In one of the magazines I analysed, Justin has a piece of gold jewellery around his neck which he is holding which makes him seem more of a ‘gangsta’ and rebellious. Justin is wearing causal normal stylish clothing, which is conventional for a pop magazine. The magazine has a plain coloured background also which is conventional for a music magazine. These magazines I have analysed are all high key lighting which is conventional for a pop magazine. Katy Perry is wearing bright girly make up in one magazine cover which makes her show her beauty more and attract audience, which is conventional for a female on a music magazine.

Representation:From analysing the 3 magazine covers I have found out that all the people as the main image are all represented as smart and stylish by the clothes they are wearing. The body language are all clearly posed to make them all look good and go with the magazine. Their facial expressions are all posing to make them look nonchalant and casual.
