Weighty reasons to be a late starterNew Year’s Resolutions….. in the words of Julz Darroch, the energiser bunny from the Good Morning Show and fitness industry mentor, “don’t make them on the first of January.

“You have the mother of all hangovers and the bank is shut…the smart thing would be to wait till February, when the holidays are over!”

January is a unique month and for our customers, just not always the most conducive to starting a new fitness regime. Even if they do start, then

everything often gets tossed out the window as they head back to their day to day routines.

Not that I want to suggest that our clients/members do not make resolutions in January. In fact if they haven’t already, we should encourage them to:

a) make just two resolutions right now, b) but to set the start date for launching into the resolutions in February.

Hearing this is bound to already put in you in good stead with many of your clients; but, between now and their designated start date, they need to pysch

themselves up and get ready in any way they can. They may need to buy a new tennis racket, book in with a personal trainer or get their sore knee seen to and they’ll also have to plan how to fit their new exercise regime or healthy eating habits into their day to day life.

The idea is for them to have all their ‘ducks in a row’ and actually be itching to go when the time comes, and that there, is what January is for!

Here’s to a fabulous 2011, filled with more success than ever before.

“Our normal approach is useless here.”

Perhaps this can be our new rallying cry.

If it’s a new problem, perhaps it demands a new approach.

If it’s an old problem, it certainly does.

Our latest poll reveals that 44% of you took two weeks off over the holidays, 35% of you took between

three and eight weeks, while 22% of you took no Christmas break at all.

Help us to help you know more about your industry.

Good reasonsfor mirrors?

Placing a mirror in front of people when they are presented with different food options results in a remarkable 32% reduction in the consumption of unhealthy food. Seeing their own reflection makes them more aware of their body and more likely to eat food that is good for them!

This is what Professor Richard Wiseman says in his book “59 Seconds – Think a little. Change a lot”.

Based on Prof Richard’s idea, we can imagine people may well work out harder when they see themselves in the gym mirror for the very same reason and even stand taller when they walk past their reflection in shop windows. Maybe mirrors at our office desk would make us sit better too!

Thanks to Mike Catton who gave “59 Seconds” to the

Catch Crew for Christmas.

Did you know you’re 50 times more likely to be on the first page of a Google search

Beautiful BellaBella by Invivo Wines recently sponsored the 2010 New Zealand Fitness Industry Awards gala event held at the Hyatt in Auckland. Bella is Invivo’s latest release with just 9% alcohol and 30% fewer calories than their standard Sauvignon Blanc. Fitness New Zealand are very pleased to welcome Bella by Invivo wines as a partner for the awards evening , New Zealand Fitness Chief Executive, Richard Beddie says. “The evening is about celebrating success in the exercise and fitness industry, and those in the industry understand life is about balance. So for those who choose to drink, what better than a lower alcohol and lower calorie wine.”With the CE’s approval, the Catch Fitness staff made a point of trying quite a bit of Bella on the night and we can vouch for this being one top notch wine.

Thanks to Tim and Rob at Invivo we have a bottle of Bella to give away as well as a bottle of their Cab Sav. Simply email [email protected] with the answers to the following questions:

1) At the New Zealand Fitness Industry Awards, which category did Invivo wines sponsor? 2) Who won that Award?

Your entry must be received by January 26. We’ll publish the winner on the Catch Fitness Facebook page and on our website on February 1.

Gifts and Functions...If you have a client who loves wine this could well be the perfect gift for them. It’s also a great one to take to dinner parties and as we found out at Christmas it makes for a fabulous talking point. From just $18.99 it would be worth keeping a dozen on hand.
