Millard Park underway this year to improve habitat for Lake Michigan fish. The Park District received $200,000 of Great Lakes Restoration initiative (GLRI) funding from the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency for this project. In addition, the Gary Borger Chapter of Trout Unlimited and the USEPA are major partners, in cooperation with the City of Highland Park on this initiative.

RosewoodThe Park District is continuing its work with the Army Corps of Engineers to develop a comprehensive plan for improvements at Rosewood. We will be reaching out to the community for your input to help us put together the best program for this site.

Have a happy and safe summer!

Our residents are important to us and we feel they deserve quality at all times. We are so confident that our recreation programs provide high quality and enjoyment that we are backing it with a policy called the Good Time Guarantee. Our promise and policy are as follows: if requested by the beginning of the third class, the Park District of Highland Park will give you a full refund if you are unsatisfied with the quality of instruction, your child’s inability to adapt emotionally in the class, or the skill level is not appropriate for the participant.

Guideline1. Participant must attend the

first two classes of the program.2. The Good Time Guarantee

Refund Form must be filled out appropriately and received prior to the third class meeting. Forms are available at the front desk of all Park District facilities. The Park District will not fax, mail or email copies. Upon receiving your completed form before the third class, we will process a full refund of your paid fees. General Notice Pesticide Application NotificationThe Park District of Highland Park strives for quality and safety when designing and providing a main-tenance program for your parks. Managing pests is only one as-pect, yet an important one, of the overall management course. Our approach to controlling pests is termed IPM or Integrated Pest Management. IPM is a system uti-lizing a great deal of observation and multiple tactics for maintaining landscapes and controlling pests of turf grass, ornamentals and wood-lands. By using IPM, we meet our objectives of maximizing cultural, biological and environmental con-trols while minimizing chemical use. Occasionally, chemical means are necessary. When these are used on Park District grounds, notification is made through posting of signs in the area, as well as contacting resi-dents, by phone or email, listed on our “turf care notification registry.” If you would like to be added to the notification registry, please call the Director of Parks at 847.579.3130.

Sunset Woods ParkSoft CourtsThe soft courts at Sunset Woods Park (1801 Sunset Road) make it easier to follow balls, and wear and tear on equipment is greatly reduced. The slower bounce offers players a more controlled game that is less strenuous with easier line calls. Soft courts are 20% cooler than hard courts–a fact to remember on those hot summer days! Lastly, soft courts reduce the risk of injury by 75% over hard court play. Soft courts are free and open to the public.
