    A note from theExecutive Director

Going back in time andswimming upstream

Tis issue o our newsletter celebrtes GlenOks Rnch nd the oortunity it ordsto ste bck in tie. Our current knowledgeo who lived nd worked on the rnchollowing the deise in the lte 1800s oChrles nd Ellen Sturt, who built the ne

We re not sure who wsliving nd working on the rnch when our ous neighbor Jck Londonnd his wie Chrin oved to town, just u the rod, little ore thn hundred yers go. Both our rnches hve hd their us nd downs. While we re working to bring Glen Oks Rnch bck to lie, Jckslce r better known nd now owned by ll o us is under stress. While it hs becoe one o our best loved stte rks nd drws Londonns ro round the world, it is slted to be closed becuse o the Sttesnncil ess.

Wht would Jck do? Well, hed robbly hve drink. But ter tht,hed get to work writing nd rising oney, which is wht we re doing. We re joining in n llince o Stte Prks, County Regionl Prks,nd ny o our ellow nonrot orgniztions, including the SonoEcology Center, to kee ll o the stte rks in Sono County oen

And while we re in the neighborhood, Sono Lnd rust hs justsigned contrct to urchse stretch o Sturt Creek between Glen OksRnch nd the London lce tht is notorious in isctory circles or itsoridble sh brrier. In tie, the high concrete brrier will coe down, the creek will be restored nd steelhed will swi gin under Highwy12 nd u through Glen Oks Rnch nd the Bouverie Preserve to thehedwters o Sturt Creek.

Te rks crisis is n oortunity to do things you think you could not dobeore. We hoe to use this one to ke the rks better nd kee the shswiing.
