Recognition Ceremony 2015!
Thanks to everyone who was able to join us on May 13th for this year’s Recognition
Ceremony. This important, annual event gives us the chance to come together in celebration of the year’s hard work and
accomplishments (of which there are always many)! Well-deserved awards and certificates were presented, beautiful
stories shared and supportive words expressed. Here are just a few of the wonderful moments captured in pictures.

The Literacy Collection includes 3
categories of books: New Reader (literacy
grade levels 0-3), Adult Basic Ed (ABE) [lit.
grade levels 4+] and ESOL (English for
Speakers of Other Languages). Visit the new
collection and remember to look for the
following color-coded labels to find texts that
suit your (or your student’s) needs:
- New Reader: Orange
- Adult Basic Ed (ABE): Green
- ESOL (Eng. for Speakers of Other Lang.): purple
Each book has been given a brand new, color-
coded label with helpful information regarding
its category and sub-category
(for example: New Reader: Reading
Comprehension or ABE: Writing.)
Have you seen what’s new with the library’s
Literacy Collection?
The library’s Literacy Collection
(formerly referred to as the New Reader
section) has been moved. It is now located on
the 1st floor of the library next to the
Circulation Study Room. When you visit the
new area, please note the new collection is still
under construction!
New Location!
More user-friendly
New Books Added
Check out the many new additions! New texts
have been added in lots of different study areas
like writing, reading comprehension, grammar,
citizenship and more. Look for tons of new titles
in the Reading for Fun category… all very
helpfully labeled with a specific reading level so
you can easily find books according to your
reading level and interest.
The Literacy Office will be
moving this summer! As of
August 1st, you can find us in
the room next door to the
current office. Please note,
THE OFFICE WILL
BE CLOSED
July 20-July 31
Please call to make an
appointment. Come check
out our new, bigger digs in
August!
We are moving!
Please join us in welcoming our newest literacy tutors. A
wonderfully patient, dedicated and hearty bunch, this group
hung in there for a month of weather delays followed by
challenging parking conditions to finally complete our winter
2015 training. Thanks for sticking it out with us!

New Tutors!
Did you know we run 2 adult education programs out
of the literacy office? In addition to the wonderful
1:1 literacy tutoring program, the library also
offers a conversation-group program for inter-
national adults living in the Quincy area. If you
think you or your literacy student (or anyone else
you know!) could benefit from additional English
conversation practice, come to Talk Time’s fall
registration in the new Literacy office:
Tuesday, 9/15 from 10am to 3pm or 6-8pm
Thursday, 9/17 from 10am to 3pm
Saturday, 9/19 from 10am to 12pm
Let’s talk about…
English Talk Time!
Volunteer facilitator Meredith Lehman and partner Kate
Kallis (not pictured) run a Tuesday morning group for a
group of motivated adults working to improve their English.
We were happy to start a new co-sponsored
conversation group last spring with a wonderful
local organization in Quincy, the Germantown
Neighborhood Center (GNC). The GNC is
located at 366 Palmer Street in Quincy. This
beginner-level conversation group got off to a
great start thanks in large part to our volunteer
facilitators, Perry Russell, Barbara Gifford and
Barbara Moriarty. New students are welcome
to join the fall Talk Time group at GNC by
coming to a library registration time listed
above or calling the Neighborhood Center
directly at 617-376-1384.
