SUMMER 2018 With a theme of volunteerism, over 120 members attended the 69th Piedmont Advantage Annual Membership Meeting, held on Tuesday, May 22, at the Maple Chase Country Club in Winston-Salem. One of the things that make your credit union different from other for-profit financial institutions is the group of member volunteers who contribute their time, energy and expertise to our membership – all without financial compensation. With continuous additions and changes to regulations, increased competition and meeting the evolving needs of our members, the job of a volunteer in the credit union gets tougher every day. “Our volunteers have hearts because their vision of our credit union is to enhance the lives of our members and their families by providing caring solutions to make their lives easier. What our volunteers do for us is beyond commendable,” said Judy Tharp, CEO/President Ramon Hoots, Board Director, was honored for his 23 years of service as he retires from the board of directors. Ramon becomes the first Director Emeritus for Piedmont Advantage Credit Union. William Boone Jim and Mary Taylor Ramon & Madeline Hoots Judy Tharp with long-time members Frank Perry and Charlotte Bell Matthew Scharf Jim Taylor, Chairman of the Board, was recognized for his 50 years of service to the board with a Members Come First service award and a plaque commemorating the Sensenich wooden propeller Jim donated to the credit union several years ago. The plaque, along with the propeller, can be found in our Member Terrace Garden at the Advantage Way branch. On behalf of the Carolinas Credit Union League, President/CEO John Radebaugh, presented Jim with a plaque commemorating 50 years of service to the credit union movement. Many more photos from the meeting can be found on our Facebook page. A copy of our Annual Report can be viewed and downloaded at pacu.com. Our Members Come First Scholarship was created in 2014 to further invest in the future of young Piedmont Advantage members nationwide. Seventeen applications were submitted and reviewed, and five high school senior members who are pursuing a degree at a college or university each received a $1,000 scholarship to invest in their education.
