WELCOME TO CAMp MAy!

Camp May is located at Beaumont Scout Reservation

(BSR). BSR sits on 2,400 acres of wooded, rolling hills and

adventure in southwestern St. Louis County. This multi-use

property is located just off Highway 44 at the Beaumont-

Antire Road exit.

Beaumont Scout Reservation offers countless activities and

facilities for Scouts, featuring Cub World, Nagel Explorer

Base (home of the council’s horses), cabins, a climbing

tower, mud cave exploration and a swimming pool.

Adult supervision at camp•ForallScoutingevents,includingsummercamp,theremustbetwoadultsactingastheadultsupervisionfortheScoutsinyourPackorDen.

◦ Ifyourunitdoesnothavetwoadultsatcamp(whichhappensoftenifonlyoneortwoScoutsfromthedenattendacampsessiontogether),thecampofficewill“pair”yourunitwithanothersmallunitsothattherearealwaysmultipleadultsoncampsitesandwhileinprogramareaswiththescouts.

•Thereisnomaximumnumberofadults,butthereisaminimumofatleastoneadultforuptoeveryfourScouts.

• Ifthereareadultssharingtheleadershipbybeingatcampforpartsofthesession,theyarewelcome

toswitchinandout,asneeded,ensuringpropersupervisionforyourScouts.

◦ Ifyouhaveextraadultsatmealtimes,theywillneedtopay$6foraguestmeal.

◦ all adults staying at camp for more than 72 hours must be Youth protection trained.

• IfyourScoutoryourDenisnotabletohaveanyadultsattendwiththeScouts,thereisanoptiontoattendwithpaidcampstaffleadership.Thereisa“CubScoutYouth,Provisional”optionatregistration.Thisisahigherfeeoptionbecausethispaysfortheadultleader’stimeandmeals.

•DenChiefs:ifyourdenhasadenchief,s/heiswelcometoattendcampasadenchief,(inadditiontotheadultsattendingcamp),payingthesamefeeasanadult.

Parent Portal ThisisanoptionaltoolforyourPackthatallowsoneparentorleadertosignupthewholegroupofScouts,givingthatpersonlog-insforparentstogoinandpayfortheirScouts,individually.Youwillseethiswhileregistering.Ifyouhavequestions,pleasereachouttotheprogramdepartmentat314-256-3044,[email protected].

When You Arrive At Camp And Check In

Check-in at the Camp Office is 1:30—3 p.m.•Werecommendthat,ifable,youcheckinby3p.m.toensureyouhavetimeforcampsitecheckin,swimtests,andcamptoursbeforedinner.

Where and how to check in:•TheCampOfficeisintheEmersonCenter,justpastthelobby.

•Whenyoucheckinattheoffice,youwillbeshownallpaidfeesandanyremainingbalances.Ifyouhavearemainingbalance,pleasebepreparedtopayitatcheck-inwithcredit,check,orcash.

•Atcheckin,youwillreceiveamealticketwhereyouwilllisthowmanyadultsandyouthareincampsothatweknowhowmanyseatsyouwillneedatmeals.YouwillgivethecompletedcardtoyourPackCounseloronyourcampsite.

Checking In at the Campsite•Checkinginonyourcampsitebeginsassoonasyourgroupisallthere.Therewillbetwocampstaffpresenttogothroughabriefmedicalcheckwithalladultsandyouthstayingatcamp.Pleasehaveyourmedicalformsoutandready.

Swim Tests, Dining Hall Orientation, and Tour of Camp•Aftereveryonehasdonehis/hermedicalrecheck,thecampstaffwilltakeyouonatourofcamppointingoutprogramareas,stoppingatthedininghallfororientation,andgoingtothepoolforswimtests.Pleaseensureyourgroupiswearingswimsuits,sunscreen,andhastheirtowelsready.

•ScoutsandadultswithdietaryrestrictionsshouldvisitwiththeFoodServiceManagerattheendofthedininghallorientation,orbeforethefirstmealincamp,toensuretheirdietaryneedsaremet.

•Swimtestsare:◦ Non-swimmer:getinthewatersplasharoundandcooloff(thisisoptional).◦ Beginners:swim50feet,includingonesharpturnandsubmergingcompletelyunderwater.◦ Swimmers:swim75yards,unbroken,withastrongforwardstroke,swim25yardsinarestingbackstroke,andthenfloatinthewaterforseveralseconds.

Basedontheswimtestyouthandadultscomplete,theycanswimindeeperwaterthroughoutthecampsession.

Ifyourgroupcantakeadvantageofpre-campswimtests,theycanskipthetestatcampduringcheckin.Contacttheprogramdepartmentfordetailsatcamping@stlbsa.org.

What To Expect At Camp

At the program areas throughout their camp session, Scouts will work on these advancements:•NovaWild•ShootingSportsAward•BuildIt•Outdoorsman•Aquanaut• IntotheWild•EarthRocks

AllScoutswillalsoworkontheShootingSportsAwardsandtheOutdoorActivityAward.

Evening program•Firsteveningiscamp-widecampfireattheCouncilRingputonbythecampstaff.

•SecondeveningisCubWorldAdventure.ScoutscanplayonthemassiveCubWorldplaygroundincludingthepirateshipandFort.Gameswillincludefortwars,capturetheflag,andmore,andwewillhavebrandingandstargazing.

•ThethirdeveningprogramisTBA.•ThefourtheveningisChooseYourOwnAdventure.Openactivitieswillincludefreeswim,climbing,STEMexperiments,archeryandBBguns.

•ThefiftheveningisCampsiteCampfire.Scoutswillparticipateintheirowncampfireskitsontheircampsites.WiththeotheradultsandScoutsonyoursite,buildacampfireforthegroupandworkwiththeScoutsonideasforskits,songs,cheers,jokes,andstories.

Everyevening,thetradingpost,theGagaPit,andHumanfoosballwillbeopen,aswell.

Trading Post•TheCampTradingPostwillbeopeneverydayfrom9a.m.—noon,2—5p.m.,and7:30—9:30p.m.

•Thisisagreatplacetopickupmiscellaneoussuppliesyoumayneedatcampsuchassunscreen,toothpasteandsnacks,andanexcellentplacetogetyourcampsouvenirsliket-shirts,hoodies,mugs,etc.

First Aid•CampMayisstaffed24hoursadaybyanemergencymedicalresponderwhohasafirstaidareainthelowerlevelofEmerson.Allinjuriesandillnessesshouldbereportedtothehealthofficer.

◦ ParticipantswithseriousinjuriesrequiringhospitalizationwillbetransportedtoSt.ClareHealthCenterorSaintAnthony’sMedicalcenter.Ifanemergencyoccursthatrequiresyoutocall911,pleasecallimmediatelythensendamessengertothecampofficeorcallusat636-587-8717.

•Medicationsshouldbekeptsecureanddispensedbytheparentorunitleaderatcamp.Whenrequested,

thehealthofficerwillholdmedicationsrequiringrefrigeration,orthosethattheunitadultsfeeluncomfortableholding.

Camp Safety Procedures

General Rules•Whilewalkingaroundcamp,Scoutsshouldbewithabuddy,always.

•Firesmustbeputoutcompletelybeforeleavingacampsite.

•Pleasedonotfeedorcatchwildlife.•Passengersofcarsmustbeinseatswithseatbeltswhendrivingoncampproperty.

•SmokingmustbedoneawayfromScouts’view.• Ifthereareanyunauthorizedorquestionablepersonsincamp,pleasespeakwiththeCampDirectortoensureunauthorizedpersonsareescortedoutofcamp.

Youth Protection•Anyonewhosuspects,knowsof,orwitnessesacamperbeingmistreatedmustnotifythecampdirectorimmediately.Anyonemistreatingacamper,inanyway,willbeaskedtoleavecamp.

•AdultsarenotpermittedtotentwithaScoutunlesss/heistheScout’sguardian.

Scout DisciplinePlease share this information with all participants before arriving at camp:•TheScoutOathandLawaretherulesandexpectationatcamp.

• Intheeventofinter-Packconflict,thePackadult(s)areresponsiblefordiscipline.

•TheCampadministrationwillsendaScouthomeimmediatelywhosteals,vandalizes,orintentionallyplaceshimselforothersindangerofharm.

•Scoutsareexpectedtobeinthecampsiteby10p.m.eachnight.Scoutsoutlaterthanthatmustbeaccompaniedbyanadult.

Emergency Procedures •Emergencyprocedureswillbepostedinthecampsiteandreviewedthefirstdayofcamp.
