Asian American Student Advocacy Project Application due: Tuesday, May 21, 2013 The Asian American Student Advocacy Project (ASAP) is a youth leadership program for Asian Pacific American public high school students who want to learn how to make positive changes in education through advocacy. ASAP begins with a 6 day Summer Institute. Looking for current 8th graders and youth who will be attending a New York City public high school in Fall 2013. http://www.cacf.org/whatwedo_youthleadership.html ASPCA Check on website on June 1st The ASPCA accepts high school students, on a limited basis, who are seeking to fulfill a graduation requirement for community service hours. This Service Learning program is offered twice a year. Volunteers must be 16 years of age or older (at the time of the orientation in early January). Visiting Nurse Service of New York Summer 2013 Volunteers are the heart of our end-of-life program. They provide that extra level of care and comfort that makes all the difference to patients and families. Volunteering is uniquely challenging and rewarding work. To visit with patients, potential volunteers must attend a twelve-hour training. We offer trainings on weeknights and weekends to accommodate a variety of schedules. A phone interview and pre-registration are required and help prospective volunteers understand the requirements for volunteering for our end-of-life care program.  St. Joseph’s College Summer 2013 Summer Institute at St. Joseph’s College is a unique experience for students who are ready to immerse themselves into an academic subject. The program promises to be an enriching academic experience that is also fun! www.sjcsummerinstitute.org Tisch School of the Arts at New York University July 14 - August 10, 2013 During the summer the Tisch School of the Arts offers high school students the chance to participate in intensive training in New York City. Through these programs students gain an enriching and enlightening experience, and a better understanding of the nature of a professional training program. In each of our four-week programs, students are enrolled in rigorous and highly structured college-level courses taught by our full-time faculty. Upon successful completion of the summer program, students earn six college credits, all fully accredited New York University courses. http://specialprograms.tisch.nyu.edu/page/hsStudents.html The Grove School of Engineering Scholars Academy in Mathematics and Science at CCNY July – August 2013 The CCNY Scholars Academy is a summer program that provides highly motivated high school students an opportunity to enroll in challenging mathematics and science courses in a 5-week intensive program. This summer's program will take place from July 2nd through August 2nd, Mondays through Thursdays from 9 am to 4 pm at the City College of New York on 138th Street and Convent Avenue. This program is open to high school students who will be entering the 10th, 11th or 12th grades in fall of 2013. Camp Ramapo Summer 2013 Each summer, Ramapo for Children serves more than 400 children with special needs, ages 5 to 16, in a beautiful, engaging outdoor environment. New York Institute of Technology Video Game Production with Motion Capture July 15 - August 9, 2013 Video Game Production with Motion Capture is a fun, informative course that will give you insight into this interesting career. For starters, you will direct a number of scenes where motion will be captured on our 32 high-speed near infrared cameras. Students can then edit and alter these movements in 3D programs such as Maya and use them in videogame development programs such as Unity. The care they provide is invaluable to patients and families. Volunteers are asked to give a minimum of four hours a week for at least six months. There are a variety of volunteer roles to fit individual time schedules, abilities and interests. Volunteers will lay down protection layers and drainage in each planter before filling them with soil, donated by the Staten Island Compost Project. New York Institute of Technology Health and Medical Academic Camp Monday, July 8 - Friday, July 19, 2013 NYIT faculty members in the School of Health Professions and the College of Osteopathic Medicine presents the Health and Medical Academy for high school students interested in pursuing a career in the medical fields. This two-week academy will expose students to programs in nursing, clinical nutrition, occupational therapy, physical therapy, physician assistant studies and osteopathic medicine.
