Summer Institute for the Vocal Arts (SIVA)SIVA is thrilled to have its complete summer program commence this
July 31–August 20, 2017. Last summer, SIVA launched its program with
a successful production of The Last Five Years by Jason Robert Brown.
This summer, we will be premiering our comprehensive program;
complete with classes in acting, voice coaching, movement for actors,
and master classes with professionals in the performing arts industry.
We are also excited to have the young artists in our program performing
in a mainstage production of the 2012 updated version of GODSPELL by
Stephen Schwartz.
The SIVA program is headed by New York City based team Briar Forsythe,
SIVA’s General Director, and Lisa-Anne Tamagini, SIVA’s Artistic Director.
Lisa-Anne Tamagini has been a professional opera and classical singer for
over twenty-five-years, and is passionate about sharing her knowledge
regarding the importance of a solid vocal technique, and the necessary
skills to be a professional singer.
Briar Forsythe, studied classical voice and is fervent supporter of the
performing arts. Ms. Forsythe is a philanthropist, successful entrepreneur
and owner of the Willowdale Estate, an award winning events and catering
company on the North Shore of Massachusetts, which serves as a
corporate sponsor for the Summer Institute for the Vocal Arts. Together,
Ms. Forsythe’s business acumen and Ms. Tamagini’s professional
performing background, inspired them to create a new summer program
outside of the city, providing a training ground for young singers that wish
to pursue a career in the vocal performing arts.

Lisa Tamagini
ARTISTIC DIRECTOR
Lisa Tamagini is a New York City based teaching singer. After earning her
Bachelor’s, Master’s, and Performer’s Certificate from the prestigious
Eastman School of Music in Rochester, New York, Ms. Tamagini went on to
have a successful stage career that has spanned over twenty years. She has
appeared in leading roles in major opera houses and concert halls including,
Houston Grand Opera, New York City Opera, Alice Tully Hall, Carnegie Hall,
and The John F. Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts.
Beginning her work as a teacher a decade ago, Ms. Tamagini found it most
rewarding to lay the foundation for a solid technique in singers that were
qualified to train prior to conservatory studies. Her method integrates a sound,
scientifically based vocal technique and text training, which acknowledges
the individual learning styles and vocal temperament of each young artist.
Ms. Tamagini students have gone on to pursue musical studies in such
institutions as The Juilliard School, Eastman School of Music, Manhattan
School of Music, Jacobs School of Music at Indiana University, Mannes College
of Music, NYU Steinhardt and Tisch, Wagner College, Syracuse University,
Ithaca College, Boston University, Harvard University, Carnegie Mellon
University, and Berklee College of Music to name a few, as well as trained
singers who went on to American Idol and The Voice. Ms. Tamagini has served
on the voice faculty of Phillips Academy in Andover, Massachusetts and is
proud to be part of the founding voice faculty of The Special Music School High
School in New York City, which is a collaboration between the Elaine Kaufman
Cultural Center and the New York City Department of Education.
In addition to teaching at The Special Music School, Ms. Tamagini maintains
a successful private voice studio in New York City and Boston North, where
she trains young professionals and high school students preparing for
conservatory studies, as well as continuing to enjoy an active singing schedule.

Lindsay MendezWe are thrilled to announce Broadway star Lindsay Mendez will be teaching a
masterclass for SIVA’s students and working with our cast in the third week of
the program. Ms. Mendez’s Broadway credits include, GODSPELL original 2011
revival cast, Elphaba in Wicked , Jan in Grease, The Marvelous Wonderettes, and
the leading role in Sherie Rene Scott’s Everyday Rapture .
Georgia StittWe are excited that one of our first masterclasses will be led by Broadway
Music Director and famed composer/lyricist, Georgia Stitt. Georgia was
the on-set music supervisor for the Anna Kendrick/Jeremy Jordan film The
Last Five Years and has previously worked as the vocal coach for the NBC
hit show America’s Got Talent. She was the assistant music director for the
NBC TV special Clash of the Choirs, the on-camera vocal coach for the NBC
reality TV show Grease: You’re The One That I Want, and the Production
Music Coordinator for the Disney/ABC TV musical Once Upon A Mattress
starring Tracey Ullman and Carol Burnett. On Broadway she was the assistant
conductor of Little Shop of Horrors and the associate conductor of the
Encores! production of Can-Can starring Patti LuPone. Other theater credits:
Sweet Charity (starring Sutton Foster), Avenue Q, Sweet Smell of Success,
The Music Man, Titanic, Annie, and the national tour of Parade. She was a
music consultant for the feature film The Stepford Wives, directed by Frank Oz.
In 2005 she served as an arranger for the Boston Pops Orchestra
(Keith Lockhart, conductor) in their 75th Anniversary Tribute to Stephen
Sondheim at Tanglewood and Boston’s Symphony Hall. In 2014 she served on
the music team for NBC‘s The Sound Of Music Live! with Carrie Underwood
and Audra McDonald.

Tuition for the SIVA full three week program is $1,200.
Tuition includes all classes, master classes, seminars, mainstage production. All accepted students will be invited to an orientation with refreshments on SIVA’s opening day Monday, July 31st at the Willowdale Estate in Topsfield, Massachusetts. The SIVA orientation will be an opportunity for students and parents to meet each other, as well as the SIVA faculty and staff.

• The SIVA program is for all individuals 14-20 years of age, who have a strong interest in pursuing conservatory training and/or a professional career as a singing actor. Advanced 13 year-olds with stage experience and training may inquire.
• Two song selections of contrasting styles: classical, musical theater, or contemporary. Songs must be memorized.
• All auditions will be evaluated by video submission. You may either upload video to your email submission, or provide a YouTube link. Deadline for submitting audition video is June 1, 2017. Your audition video does not need to be professional quality. Please state your name and age at the start of your video.

MISSION STATEMENT
SIVA’s mission is to offer quality vocal instruction for young singers, ages 14–20,
in all styles (musical theater, contemporary, opera, and jazz) pursuing careers in the
vocal arts. Students will be instructed through the fundamentals of classical technique
by seasoned voice teachers from New York City and Boston, who have worked
professionally or are currently working in the performing arts industry.
In addition to vocal instruction, SIVA endorses all aspects of the conservatory
philosophy and training by offering classes in acting, speech, movement, master
classes with industry professionals, as well as a variety of performance opportunities
that will benefit singers in developing their skills and confidence.
The Summer Institute for the Vocal Arts is a non-profit organization that welcomes
