A Message from your President…..
The past months have been busy ones for MRO and SFTA. We recently com-
pleted our Santa Fe Trail GeoTour which is bringing many new visitors to our
Trails and the many historic sites along the way. We are receiving comments
from a whole new group of visitors who are experiencing the trails for the very
first time. We are hoping that this project will generate a whole new generation
of trail enthusiasts.
In May we presented a check in the amount of $2080 in memory of our late
President Roger Slusher to the Lexington Historical Museum. The donation was made possible by all
of the memorial donations received over the past year. The funds will provide a much needed boost for
one of Roger’s favorite historical projects and a plaque will be installed in his memory.
We are now working on several new projects including an outdoor kiosk type of display for Salem Park
in Independence. The partners in this project are SFTA, National Parks Service and Jackson County
Parks and Recreation. In addition we are in the final stages of the design and production of a new
driving tour brochure for Lafayette and Saline Counties in Missouri where the newly installed signs are
located along County Roads. These will be available at various museums and visitor centers along the
length of the Santa Fe Trail in Missouri.
Lastly, I would like to encourage all of our members to continue in your support of MRO and SFTA but
also to share our newsletters with family, friends and neighbors. Consider giving a membership as a
gift for a special occasion
