At a local community gathering, Kitty Woods met an older woman who was in a lot of pain that day from a horrible toothache. The pain had been constant and growing more painful for several weeks. She needed dental care that she simply could not afford. She had come to the event with friends, so she didn't have her own transportation to just leave without them. On top of that, a young girl she knew, just that very morning, had told her about a free clinic in town. She and Kitty struck up an informal conversation. Kitty appreciated her dilemma and offered her a ride over to the Wildflower Clinic. She promised to stay with the woman, no matter how long the morning’s effort might take. While the clinic was very busy when they arrived, based on the woman’s severe pain, she was qualified and asked to wait. Perhaps she could be worked into the morning’s schedule. The dental team that day made her need a priority and the very painful tooth was extracted. Meanwhile, Kitty was observing a busy clinic, a local cause that needed volunteers. “Why not me?” she said to herself. It was a perfect win-win scenario. The clinic was shining in a woman’s hour of need, and severe dental pain is an overpowering need! Additionally, it caught the attention of a young lady who has great skills, some available time, and lots of compassion. Kitty enjoys working in the lab, sterilizing dental instruments. She loves greeting patients and always has an encouraging word for each of them. She also has been an amazing help with office machine and computer technical issues. She has been the hero of the day on several occasions! Kitty, thanks for being a Good Samaritan first, and next, an excellent and valued volunteer! Kitty working in the lab. “Why not me?”

Gifts! They come our way when birthdays roll around or we reach a milestone in life. Gifts are nice, of course, but often they are just something else to sit on a shelf in our stuffed closets. However, here are two examples from our local community that demonstrate how creative gifts have made a difference for our clinic. Jane Thousand, the wife of one of our volunteer dentists, was having a birthday celebration for

herself and her granddaughter, Macey. She asked friends to, in lieu of gifts, send a check to Good Samaritan, a cause that is dear to her heart. From the more than 20 checks from her friends, we were overjoyed to receive over $500! Jane, you really know how to celebrate a birthday well. Thank you!

The Memorial Presbyterian Church’s Community Outreach Committee was planning a celebration for Victor Yerrill, their dedicated chairman who was stepping down after several years of service. Rather than purchasing a commemorative plaque, the committee took up a collection in his honor and sent $325 to the Wildflower Clinic. We know Victor, another friend who cares about this clinic, was indeed pleased by this thoughtful gesture. We sincerely thank these “creative” friends for sharing with us in this way.

Perhaps these ideas will inspire you to be creative in supporting our efforts to provide free medical and dental care to our neighbors in need. A rummage sale, a paper drive, or a simple children’s lemonade stand are other ideas that could be used to give creatively. Please consider using the enclosed envelope to help make a difference and be sure to tell us if you did something creative to generate this money. Thank you!

Sincerely,

Two churches in West Augustine combined their musical talents to put on a wonderful fund raising concert, “Rejoice, a Celebration of Gospel”, on Friday evening, March 11th. The New Mt. Moriah Christian Ministry and the E.A.

Kelley Church of God in Christ have no shortage of talented, dedicated musicians! The S & S Mimes, pictured on the photo, were among several groups and individuals that performed to a packed audience in the Mt. Moriah sanctuary. The concert raised over $1,000 for the clinic and we extend our sincere thanks to both churches for their

wonderful efforts that blessed those who attended, and for the financial assistance in helping fund our clinics.

When is a ball anything less than a grand celebration and fun evening out? Our 2011 Wildflower Clinic Ball was a successful evening of dancing, dining, and assisting with our financial needs.

Silent and Live Auction items proved to be a big hit among the guests. A Live Auction highlight this year was a trip for two on a Photo Safari to South Africa! The Baskets on Parade were beautifully and carefully crafted, showcasing wonderful community effort. Over 40 unique baskets ran the gamut from an amazing wheelbarrow filled with colorful garden flowers, to a roaster oven loaded with great cooking accents and accessories! Orthopaedic Associates took top honors in the voting on baskets, winning in 2 out of 8 categories, including “My Favorite Basket” and “Most Beautiful Basket”.

Guests were treated to a gourmet meal provided by d'Vine cuisine; while out on the dance floor, many couples enjoyed themselves immensely. Local entertainer Tim Rippey performed many classical favorites along with a rousing homage to Neil Diamond.

The evening's event raised approximately $17,000 and will go toward our critical efforts in helping to provide medical and dental services for local low income individuals who do not have health insurance. A well deserved and heartfelt “thank you” to all who attended plus the Ball Committee, donors to the Live and Silent Auction items, event sponsors, those who made in-kind donations and a long list of others who helped informally. We could not have achieved the success that we had without all of you.
