Guitar Camp engages the young guitarist in all aspects of guitar playing. From exploring the components of the guitar, learning to play and creating visual art to enhance the stage performance, the week is an exciting musical adventure. Our fun approach ensures your child will make lasting musical memories.

Creative Drama Studio Ages 8–10, all 3 weeks & 11–12, Week 3 only

Creative Drama Studio introduces young drama students to a wonderfully creative process. Dramatic techniques such as story making, character development, creative movement and vocal skills help build the play. Your child’s imagination is developed through learning how to collectively create and build their own theatrical play!

Stomp Ages 9-11

Time to make some noise! In Stomp, your child experiments with all sorts of percussion instruments such as drums, shakers, cowbells,

triangles, cans, plastic containers and more. Stomp allows your child to explore all areas of creating rhythm. What’s more – we put it all together to create one funky piece of percussive performance. It’s so much fun, it’s crazy!

Summer Sing AlongAges 8-12, Week 3 only

Experience fun, friends, music and learning. Develop individual vocal skills and experience the joy of singing in an ensemble. Participants are subdivided by voice range (soprano, alto, tenor and bass) and sing a variety of repertoire while working on movement activities. No prior choir experience is necessary, only a love of singing and music!

ImprovisationAges 11-12, Week 2 only

Improv stretches the imagination in the art of making it up. Your child learns to let go of logical thinking and judgment to free their spontaneity and creativity. Your child will develop creativity and self-confidence through warm-up exercises, mime, story building and theatre games. Trust your instincts!

ShowtimeAges 11–13

Showtime brings a play to life beginning with a pre-written script and breathing life into it. Focusing on the role of an actor, your child learns lines, develops characters and rehearses scenes to pick up valuable tips on becoming a better actor. Our fundamental approach helps to discover more about the entire theatre process from beginning to end.

Individual Music InstructionFrom voice to violin, music lessons teach

more than just tunes. Learning to play

an instrument is one of the greatest gifts

you can give your child or yourself. The

Conservatory of Performing Arts has

been offering music instruction in Regina

for 100 years.

hiGh QuALiTy inSTruCTion

Our instructors are among the best

in the province. Many hold university

degrees and perform with the Regina

Symphony Orchestra as well as in

their own groups and ensembles. Most

importantly, Conservatory instructors

nurture and develop students to their

highest potential.

The riGhT AGe

Quite often, we are asked what the ‘ideal

age’ is for beginning music lessons. The

answer is any age can be the right age to

begin. It really depends on the child and

the instrument chosen. String lessons

often begin with students as young as

four with active parental involvement.

Piano lessons can begin as soon as the

child is tall enough to sit at the bench

and reach the keys, although beginning

around the age of six or seven is more

common.

Many students begin playing piano,

violin, cello and guitar at a young

age. As they grow older and develop

physically, they can begin to explore

other instruments. Often students

begin taking lessons on wind and brass

instruments to complement their school

band program.

Starting music lessons is a personal

decision for every family and depends on

the maturity, interest and motivation of

your child regardless of age.

hoW MuSiC LeSSonS WorK

Music lessons at the Conservatory are

taught one-on-one with an instructor and

are typically once a week for 30 minutes.

Lessons are available seven days a week

and generally take place after school

and on weekends. The Conservatory also

offers lessons during the day if desired.

Students may begin at any time during

the year.

people who shared some of my interests. Personal

enrichment courses provide an opportunity to join

discussions and I have learned so much from some of

the people who speak up and talk about their life

are my favourite ones. They give me a chance to learn

“I was so happy when I started to investigate taking

classes at the U of R. They actually fit into my busy

schedule. Once I get my degree, I will have the option

to move further in my organization, make a little

more money, and provide more opportunities for my

kids. Without online and night classes this wouldn’t

be possible. I can study on my lunch break or after

the kids go to sleep, whenever it works for me...”

Institutes The expert’s Tip: Coaching & Mentoring employees By Shana ring, instructor

One of the primary roles of leadership

is developing other leaders. Great

leaders are highly skilled in the art of

“intentional” listening and “intentional”

questioning

To listen with “intention” we listen for the

other person’s potential – their strengths,

knowledge, skills, abilities, values, and

beliefs. We listen for who they are and

what they can achieve.

To ask questions with “intention” we ask

questions that fosters the other person’s

learning and self-awareness, and

facilitate independent thinking, creativity

and problem solving. Intentional

questions move people forward and

create the opportunity for shifts in

thinking and the energy required for

change.

A great leader’s intention is focused on

the other person’s success.
