It’s fun!
Summer Reading Challenge
Jun 16-Aug 8
Experiment and Explore Early Literacy! It's a summer reading challenge for our youngest library friends!
Each week we will focus on one of the pre-reading skills and explore them
through fun activities. Grab a log each week to keep track of your progress.
At the completion of the program children will earn a prize.
The six skills are Print motivation - or liking books - means children will want to learn
to read.
Phonological awareness - helps children sound out written words.
Vocabulary - helps children recognize written words and under-
stand what they read.
Narrative skills - helps children develop thinking and comprehension
skills.
Print awareness - helps children feel comfortable with books and
understand that print is useful.
Letter knowledge - helps children figure out how to sound
out words.
