The City of Kaiserslautern
If relaxing in a pleasent and historical area, shopping and dining are of your favouritepastimes, then you will love downtown Kaiserslautern!
There are some wonderful hiking & mountain bike trails near the University of Kai-serslautern. The university is surrounded by the Palatinate Forest, Germany’s largest
continuous forest area. There are picnic and recreational activity areas along the trail
paths. It is also the perfect place to go jogging in the morning or evening.
If you enjoy a good glass of wine now and then coming to Kaiserslautern, into the he-art of German wine country is a must. Make sure to get out to one of the regions count-
less wine festivals, which not only offer a wide variety of wine, but also the experi-ence of witnessing small communities coming together at the starting of the summer
to enjoy the efforts of their labour in the vineyards.
There are many choices for an evening out in downtown Kaiserslautern. The pede-
strianised streets around St. Martin’s Platz are crowded with cafe tables all day long.
There is truly nothing more pleasant than sitting outside downtown, with absolutely
no trafic apart from the bicycles, on a warm summer evening.
The Sommerfest is a special university party held once during the summer semester.
It begins already in the afternoon and provides a wide variety of food and drinks and
lasts all day/all night long. There are several bands, and there is other entertainment, as well. This event attracts
thousands of people from beyond the university community and sprawls throughout the university’s campus, quite the sight to be seen.
If you enjoy a good swim then be sure to visit monte mare (big water park with ad-
venture slides and saunas ), the „Warmfreibad“ (an open-air pool) and the
„Waschmühle“ ( the largest open-air swimming pool in Europe)!
Come and see for yourself!
