DIRECTOR ’S NOTES – EDWARD MORGAN

This is John’s celebration of summer. We first developed the piece at the Cedarburg Performing Arts Center in 2006 with the title A MIDSuMMER NIGhT MCGIvERN. In later summers we remounted the show at the Marcus Center and Milwaukee Rep, and it was also taped by MPTv and has been broadcast on various occasions. We’re delighted to be remounting the show again with a new title and some new sections in this lovely new theatre. This show is a tour through John’s stories of summer, from bringing out the screens and the old push mower, through the 4th of July and summer camp to those lazy August days by the lake. The memories are John’s, but they have a ring of familiar truth. For many of us, they call to mind our own childhood summers, our families and holidays, and hopes and fears we’ve sometimes long forgotten. This is John’s special gift - with hilarity and humanity, he reacquaints us with ourselves. happy summer days.
