Irvine started public sim football leagues in January 2010 when he announced the WAFL would be coming to Backbreaker. After stints with Backbreaker (2010) and NCAA Football (2011-2013), the SFL was born on All-Pro Football 2k8 in the summer of 2013.

Irvine graduated from Texas State University and is the Sports Edi-tor of the New Braunfels Herald newspaper at only 22-years-old. An aspiring play-by-play commentator, Irvine is responsible for day-to-day league operations, maintains and operates all league websites and handles play-by-play duties for each SFL game.

Kyle WalshSFL Deputy Commissioner

Walsh has been with Irvine’s sim leagues from the beginning and previously owned the Cincinnati Sentinals of the WAFL. Walsh now owns the SFL’s Orlando Intimidators and won his first sim football championship this past season in New York.

A family fan, Walsh is married to Kailua Wyverns owner Jaimie Walsh, happily married for six years and has worked as a counter sales representative at HD Supply during that timeframe. Walsh is the chief consultant to Irvine on all league matters and is available to owners when Irvine has scheduling conflicts.

#1 45 41September 10, 2013The first-ever SFL Championship Game was one no one involved in the league will ever forget. Tied at 24, New York returned a fum-bled punt return for a touchdown as time expired in the first half. Three touchdowns were scored in the final two minutes - including a fourth-down pass from Joseph Redfeather to Freeman Goodspeed.

March 10, 2014In another classic matchup between Grand Rapids and Oklahoma City, the Rollers converted a fourth-down miracle to force overtime, only to have their playoff hopes ripped away by Oklahoma City in the final minutes. The Rollers have lost all four meetings to OKC, two by 3 points or less and this meeting in OT.

37 31

September 1, 2013Drama follows the Renegades wherever they’re playing. The semi-fi-nal match up with the Renegades and Bulldogs was the first official overtime game in SFL history and it all came about thanks to a missed San Francisco extra point. OKC won the game in OT and advanced to their first-ever SFL Championship Game.

16 13

June 15, 2013The Dallas Stars and the New York Knights kicked off the history of the Simulation Football League with a dramatic 26-21 finish in Dallas. The Stars picked off eventual-MVP Joseph Redfeather in the final minute to clinch the victory and usher in a new level of Simu-lation Football.

26 21

July 14, 2013There’s nothing like the Walsh Bowl and the first SFL Walsh Bowl was one to remember. Down 27-17 at the half, Orlando rattled off 21 straight points to take a 38-27 advantage only to give up 21 straight points in the fourth quarter and fall back behind by ten. Since then, Orlando has won two out of three meetings.

48 45

February 1, 2014Having a star kicker has never made more of a difference and Orlando’s win in Kailua may have been the turning point on their championship run. Kailua missed a field goal in the final minutes of regulation and than again in overtime, while Orlando hit a field goal with 0:14 left in the 4th and than again in OT for victory.

27 24

February 10, 2014In one of the most epic back-and-forh showdowns ever, Dallas and Grand Rapids went through 7 lead changes in the 2nd half, with the Rollers getting the last laugh on Bobby Vesacaro’s 4th TD. Roc-co Marconi threw 5 TD’s and 0 INT’s in the contest and Dallas lost despite 20 1st-quarter points and 263 rec. yards from Scott King.

45 40

August 3, 2013The Rollers took their first lead (since pulling ahead 7-3) on a Roc-co Marconi pass with 1:14 remaining only to allow the Renegades to complete a big pass downfield, allowing OKC to bleed the clock and kick a game-winning field goal as time expired. Pete Bruschi’s dominance against the Rollers was only just beginning.

29 27

July 7, 2013Yuya Aiba had 287 receiving yards and 3 TD’s. Freeman Good-speed had 270 receiving yards and 3 TD’s. The two teams com-bined to pass for 977 passing yards in the first SFL game in which two teams scored 40+ points. 3 of the other 5 games of that nature cracked the top ten list.

47 44

January 4, 2014Little did we know it was a sign that the tables were turning on New York. The eventual Winter 2013 champs took down the Sum-mer 2013 title winners with 20 straight points in the second half, after falling behind 28-14, thanks in big part to 6 INT’s thrown by Joseph Redfeather and a near-perfect day from Kevin Walker.

The Baltimore Crabs are the first-ever expansion team in SFL history and they have been the hot topic of conversation since the announcement. The Crabs have built up the biggest staff in league history, which consists of two coordinators and - led by owner Tim Johnston - has taken league promotion to new levels. How they will play on the field, has yet to be seen.

Their secondary should contend with Oklahoma City’s as best in the league by season’s end. The Crabs invested heavily in Run-ning Back Elliot Snider and Outside Linebacker Joe Dazzo. The Crabs are a true expansion team and brought in all their own players to try to win a SFL title. Fun fact: Joe Dazzo and his son, quarterback Mike Dazzo, become the first father-son tandum on the same team in professional football history.

The Dallas Stars are coming off their first playoff appearance in franchise history, but owner Ronnie Nickens is still seeking his first playoff victory. The Stars have been a team that has his-torically struggled on the road and for the team to get over the hump, they must get those elusive victories away from racous Miller/Gold Stadium.

Zach Elpheage was signed this off-season to help the defensive woes after Dallas finished 6th or dead last in the main defensive catagories in the winter. Unfortunetly for Dallas, locking up run-ning back Johnny English long-term meant the team parted ways with strong safety Ahmad Arrington. If the defense can play the way they played in the second half of the winter, the Stars will be a championship contendor.

Owner Ronnie Nickens formerly owned the Cleveland Stallions of the WAFL and lives in the Cleveland area. Nickens - in his three complete sim seasons in the WAFL/SFL has made one postseason appearance. His style is old school and it has given teams fits. Nickens has had terrible luck with injuries in the past and without that bug, his ground and pound/play action game could thrive like no other.

Thomas Ranklins struggled through the winter season despite Dallas making it’s first playoff trip. In both seasons, Ranklins has thrown 5 more interceptions than touchdowns and was sacked a league-high 41 times last season. Most would say Ranklins’ time in Dallas has been a little underwhelming and he may only have one year left to prove his worth.

QUARTERBACK

Johnny English was signed to a three-year contract extension this off-season and for good reason. Before injury, English was av-eraging a league-record 5.93 yards per carry. English’s issue has been staying healthy but if he can get over that hurdle, Dallas’ offense could become more explosive than ever be-fore.

BACKFIELD

It was one heck of a season for Scott King last year, who set the league record for yards per catch (25.40). King went from 852 yards and 2 TD’s in the summer to 1,194 yards and 9 TD’s in the winter. There’s no reason why King can’t continue those numbers. Cesar Cannon is also back in the mix and Asante Doleman returns to Dallas as a tight end.

RECEIVERS/TIGHT ENDS

Larry Henderson (DT) was on the trading block at a point last season and than was nearly made the main man of the defense. In the end, Henderson became a silver star in the new-look Stars defense, which has histor-ically struggled. Henderson has not. He went from 6.5 sacks in the summer to a league-re-cord 13.0 last campaign.

LINEMEN

SPOTLIGHT

Zach Elpheage is the most important signing by the Dallas front office this season hands down. Elpheage set the league record for tackles in a game late last season (17) but fell behind on San Francisco’s priority list.

Grand Rapids is hoping that the addition of Defensive Coordina-tor Logan Foster and a flurry of off-season activity can launch the Rollers into the playoffs for the first time in franchise histo-ry. Grand Rapids will have 7 defensive stars following a defen-sive effort that was lackluster last season and did not sign any star wide receivers - the first team to ever take that risk.

The confidence in the passing game has been fully given to Tight End Marcus Campbell, Rocco Marconi’s only downfield weapon after Vesacaro, Miller and Doleman were all let go or traded. How the defense will come together will be the key to the Rollers season. The addition of Jeb Gatlin was the most important addition to the defense, reuniting the Gatlin brothers. How others fit into their new roles is the big question.

The Kailua Wyverns made their first trip to the playoffs this past winter, but fell hard to the Oklahoma City Renegades. Kailua will be the second-youngest team in the league this year, with three rookies, including running back Noel Kreiss, who replaces Park HeeChul (now in New York). Historically, the Wyverns’ inability to get the running game going has hurt this team.

Sebastian Brock and Lawrence Kirkland joined Nathaniel Graison as bronze stars who have gotten big investments from Walsh. With those three locked in and confidence in Ohno Matsumoto for the first time, the Wyverns rookies will make the difference this year. Kailua became the second team to invest money in a kicker (Jun Kazunari) and also took a cornerback (Koyama Shigeaki) in the Rookie Draft.

This off-season, the New York Knights moved back to owner Erik Barkley’s market: the Buffalo market. The Knights’ and Bar-kley’s popularity could push the Knights into the spotlight there, instead of in the shadows of The Big Apple.

On the field, the Knights cleaned house after a lackluster 3-5 season that saw the offense struggle to produce consistantly. For the first time, New York will actually have a running game after New York traded for Park HeeChul this off-season. The Knights also traded away Joseph Redfeather, Freeman Goodspeed and Jeb Gatlin. In their place will be Wes St. Clair, Donald Mill-er and Rookie Tight End Brock Studwell. The defense returns everyone but Gatlin and should be in good shape. We’ll see if Barkley’s blowup favors or hinders the Knights’ future.

The Oklahoma City Renegades have been to the Championship Game two straight seasons and have suffered two bitter defeats. The team has been a winner and the only one in league history to have two-consecutive above-.500 seasons but has yet to win the big prize. The Renegades are known for having one of the league’s best, consistant and punishing defense.

The OKC Renegades have had a wackier off-season than most, deciding to cut Wes St. Clair only to see New York scoop up St. Clair after OKC re-submitted an offer to him. OKC thought they had signed Ted Killings to a gold deal, only to be over-ruled by the league after the contract was signed. Based around their running game and tremendous secondary, if OKC can get back to football, the Renegades could prove lethal.

Zach Elpheage was signed this off-season to help the defen-sive woes. Rookie inside linebacker Cameron Brantley will also help in the effort. Unfortunetly for Dallas, locking up running back Johnny English long-term meant the team parted ways with strong safety Ahmad Arrington. If the defense can play the way they played in the second half of the winter, the Stars will be a championship contendor.

OVERVIEW

Owner Ronnie Nickens formerly owned the Cleveland Stallions of the WAFL and lives in the Cleveland area. Nickens - in his four complete sim seasons in the WAFL/SFL has made one postsea-son appearance. His style is old school and it has given teams fits. Nickens has had terrible luck with injuries in the past and without that bug, his ground and pound/play action game could thrive like no other.
