As I sit down to write this message each month, I’m always amazed at the abundance of topics to choose fr om as I scan the calendar. Certainly there are the perennial favorites like

Mardi Gras, St. Patrick’s Day, and the always popular First Day of Spring. It’s hard to beat festive costumes, green beer, and the return of robins and swallows.

However, I’m learning that March has so much more to off er. For the more cerebral among us, there are Read Across America Day, International Women’s Day, World Wildlife Day, Consumer Rights Day, and Pi Day. Later in the month you’ll encounter World Kidney Day, Persian New Year, World Tuberculosis Day, National Doctors’ Day, International Transgender Day, Greek Independence Day and World Poetry Day.

As important as those may be, there were others that really caught my eye. What red-blooded American could ignore National Oreo Day on March 6? Personally, I think I’ll make a point of observing National Napping Day on the 12th and World Sleep Day on the 15th. The fi nal two weeks of the month are full of special days too. How about International Day of Happiness, Manatee Appreciation Day, World Water Day, and National Puppy Day? If you’ve ever tried to house-break a puppy, you soon learn that every day is World Water Day…but I digress.

Most surprising of all to me was National Joe Day which is celebrated on March 27th. I fi rst thought it had something to do with coff ee, but I soon learned that it’s a day to celebrate the Joes, Josephines, Josephs, Joanns, and Jodies in your life. My husband’s name is Joe and my mother is JoAnn. I certainly hope this holiday doesn’t involve expensive gift s. Enjoy!

Live Well Age Well

The Connected Life Program focuses on

highlighting the four key aspects we believe are a

vital part of a healthy, happy, and balanced life.

Residents are able to choose activities and programs

that complement their personal tastes in Health &

Fitness, Lifelong Learning, Community Activities,

and Leisure & Recreation. The best part? All

programs are free for our residents along with a daily

continental breakfast.

This includes all of our wellness activities, referrals

to community service providers, an array of

educational programs, choices of weekly recreational

events, regular social opportunities and gatherings,

transportation services for shopping, medical visits,

and so much more!

As seniors, sometimes we think we have

seen (and know) it all, but as John Wooden

once said “It’s what you learn after you

know it all that counts.” We have monthly

lectures and presentations on an array of

topics to stimulate the mind.

LEARNING

Being part of a community is more than

just being neighbors. It’s individuals com-

ing together to build each other up, share

similar interests, laugh together, and help

each other grow.

ACTIVITIES

Healthy living is an integral part of the

Connected Life Program. Whether you’re

a devoted yoga class-goer, enjoy taking

evening walks with a friend, love water

aerobics, or just need to meditate in the

morning before you start your day, our

Health program has something for you.

HEALTH

Summit residents are never without an

opportunity to have some fun. Whether

it’s trying their hand at a friendly game

of cards, unwinding in the salon, perfect-

ing their cross stitch, or just relaxing and

catching up with other residents.

LEISURE

love living at Glenwyck, see Laura
