He will dwell with them; and they will be his peoples….” Our worship in these Sundays of Easter will immerse us in the faith, hope and love of the living Christ. He is risen! He is risen indeed! WORSHIP IN APRIL

PASTOR’S MESSAGE: “The Sundays of Easter”

We have just celebrated the miracle of God’s power over death demonstrated in Jesus’ resurrection.

He is risen! He is risen indeed! These Sundays following Easter are not la-belled “the Sundays after Easter,” but “the Sundays of Easter.” One commen-tator has called them “the most festive season of the Christian year.” Why? Because the Sundays of Easter are hope-filled reminders that Christ’s presence with us is not simply a past event, but an ongoing occasion for celebration, an unending experience of eternal life, a daily participation in what the apostle Paul called being “in Christ.”

In the earliest writing of the New Testament, Paul greets the Thessalonians with thanks for their “work of faith and labor of love and steadfastness of hope in our Lord Jesus Christ.” At the end of the letter, he encourages them to “rejoice always, pray without ceasing, give thanks in all circumstances; for this is the will of God in Christ Jesus for you.”

The Gospel of John tells of Jesus coming among his disciples on that first Sun-day of Easter saying, “Peace be with you.” In the epilogue to that Gospel, Je-sus appeared a “third time” to his followers, telling them, “follow me.” He did-n’t have to qualify his invitation by saying, “because I’m not dead!”

The book of Acts recalls Peter and other apostles being “witnesses” that “God… raised up Jesus…” and “exalted him… as Leader and Savior.” And Saul (Paul) is told that “the Lord Jesus… appeared to you… so that you may… be filled with the Holy Spirit.”

In the final book of Revelation, “grace… and peace” are announced “from Jesus Christ… the firstborn of the dead, and the ruler of the kings of the earth.” And in chapter 21, a “voice from the throne” cries loudly: “See, the home of God is among mortals. He will dwell with them; and they will be his peoples….”

Our worship in these Sundays of Easter will immerse us in the faith, hope and love of the living Christ. He is risen! He is risen indeed!
