BELONGING
We welcome new disciples to our
parish communities. If you live
within our parish boundaries, which
is our mission field, then you are
already a member. It is still
important that you register at the
Parish Oce or during registration
weekends so we can communicate
with you throughout the year. We
are here to help you meet Jesus
Christ, grow in holiness, and fully
participate in a life of prayer.
Please call or stop at either parish
oce, or speak with Fr. Schuster.
We are disciples together!

Miraculous Medal Prayer
Immaculate, Holy Virgin Mary, beloved daughter of the Father,
Mother of the Son and Bride of the Holy Spirit! Through the
revelation of the Miraculous Medal, you have shown yourself
as the Mediatrix of all graces. We thank God from our hearts
that He has given you to us as Mother, intercessor and helper
in all our needs. With confidence, I take refuge in you in all my
needs of body and soul, especially in this special request (…).
You gave me your Miraculous Medal in which you stretch your
motherly arms towards me. Your mother’s hands offer me all
the graces for time and eternity that I need, to get to you and
your Divine Son in the heavenly kingdom. I trustingly lift up
my hands to you to receive all these graces. Also, I thank you
for all the graces you have already given me. Help me to keep
all the graces faithfully and always eagerly cooperate with
them. Amen.
O Mary, conceived without sin,
pray for us who have recourse to Thee.

ST. MARY MASS UPDATE
Last weekend we had 280 people safely attend
Masses at St. Mary. This is our highest number
since the world changed back in March. Even with
social distancing, we can handle 415 per weekend.
Prior to Covid-19, attendance was around 600
people per weekend. Let's keep climbing out of
this situation and offer praise and thanksgiving at
our weekend Masses.
HOLY TRINITY MASS UPDATE
Last weekend we had 128 people safely attend
Masses at Holy Trinity. Even with social
distancing, we can handle 210. Prior to Covid-19,
attendance was around 275 people per weekend.
It is a bit warm in the church at times, but we keep
the new fans running, and the windows and doors
open. We hope to see more people pray with us.

DO YOU HAVE THE GIFT OF
TEACHING?
Our parishes are in need of a few catechists
who can teach the Catholic faith to our
students. You would be provided with an in
-service, mentoring, and opportunities to
grow in your own faith. We are looking for
true witnesses who can teach others what
it means to be a disciple of Jesus Christ,
and how to pray.
Jesus may be calling you!
Please inquire directly to Fr. Schuster.
Question: Is it okay to buy a lottery ticket? I know we are not supposed to
gamble.
Answer: The Church does not forbid gambling, so long as it is done responsibly
and the money used for gambling is not needed for other legitimate
obligations. The Catechism of the Catholic Church states: “Games of chance
(card games, etc.) or wagers are not in themselves contrary to justice. They
become morally unacceptable when they deprive someone of what is
necessary to provide for his needs and those of others. The passion for
gambling risks becoming an enslavement. Unfair wagers and cheating at
games constitute grave matter, unless the damage inflicted is so slight that the
one who suffers it cannot reasonably consider it significant.” (CCC 2413)
Question: When is drinking alcohol a mortal sin?
Answer: Abusing intoxicating drink is a grave sin if it deprives the drinker of
the use of reason. This means that the drinker no longer has the freedom
necessary to deliberate responsibly about what he should do or not do. Of
course, in order to be a grave sin the excessive drinking has to be deliberate,
not simply a surprise based on lack of foresight. In this latter case the
intoxication would be a venial sin.
There are other aspects of drinking that may be sinful; for example, its impact
on the health of the body. For neglect of bodily health due to drinking there has
to be a grave physical danger to which the drinker is knowingly exposing
himself.
Further, there are the requirements of civil law. The blood alcohol limit
established by law is much lower than actual gravely sinful intoxication, but it is
the point at which some reflexes may be so impaired as to make driving unsafe.
Ignoring these laws can easily be grave matter also, even if the driver is not
strictly speaking drunk. Taken from https://www.catholic.com/qa

ST. MARY SPRING FLING UPDATE
SATURDAY, SEPTEMBER 12, 2020
Due to circumstances, our already postponed Spring Fling will not
be able to happen as we once hoped.
There will not be an event at the Fairgrounds Expo Building
There will not be a Mass with Polka Music
The booyah sale WILL still take place September 12th in the
church parking lot. Pre-orders are encouraged.
The bucket ra4es and live auction items WILL be available via
silent auction in church AND through an online bidding program
throughout the month of September. Details on items will be
posted through the school Facebook site.
We are hoping to still do our most popular ra4e- DESSERTS!
Our Home & School Organization cannot help the school without the
funding that comes from the Spring Fling. We will be doing a direct
donation appeal in order to try and gain funding. We are hoping that
the community will come through as it has so many times in the
past. Please keep your eyes open for more details.
HABEMUS PRINCIPALEM!
When the cardinals of the Church elect a
new pope, it is a moment of great joy.
The new pope is introduced after a joyful
proclamation of the words Habemus
Papam! It means, “We have a Pope!” It is
with that same sense of enthusiasm and
joy that Fr. Schuster ran around the
parishes on Tuesday screaming,
Habemus Principalem. “We have a
Principal! “
Mrs. Melissa Wojcik
Mrs. Wojcik will have a chance to
introduce herself in this bulletin after
she arrives on Monday and meets with
her new staff. At this time, we can tell
you this:
Mrs. Wojcik was our search team’s
top pick of the 9 candidates who
applied at St. Mary.
She has strong Catholic faith and
family values. Her husband runs a
farm in the Pulaski area. She has
two children.
She was previously a Golden Apple
Award teacher.
She is a science teacher and a dean
of students who completed her
Master’s and her licensing in
administration.
 She was her school’s representative
for her district’s Covid-19 response
and is ready to lead us through our
challenges.
She has a “can do” attitude and is
excited about our two schools.
Mrs. Wojcik is going to have her hands
full when she arrives. Feel free to send
her a welcome message:
We are very blessed to have her as part
of our team. May God Bless Mrs. Wojcik
and her family!

CCD UPDATE
Below you can see a powerful image of St. Junipero Serra celebrating
the Holy Mass on the banks of a California bay. Gathered around a
makeshift altar in 1770, where the priest and the people are all focused
on the one sacrifice of Jesus Christ, you will notice native believers,
Spanish soldiers, peasants, and missionaries. Images such as this
remind me of what the Mass is all about.
1) The Mass is a visit to Mt. Calvary, where Jesus gave his life for us in
the saving blood and water that came forth from his side. The tree
in the background of the photo helps make the connected between
the tree of the cross, and the place where they are having Mass.
You can imagine our own altars and sanctuaries as places of Mt.
Calvary, and you too can behold the beautiful thing Jesus has done
to save our lives.
2) The Mass brings together people who might otherwise be divided.
For the people of St. Junipero Serra’s time, being Catholic helped
to keep people from killing each other. All competing interests
were set aside in order to focus on Jesus Christ, his mission, and
the kingdom of heaven. This did not go perfectly, which is one of
the reason why St. Serra is now a controversial figure. However, it
is undeniable that the mission work he did, especially with the
Mass, brought people together and reduced colonial violence.
3) In all sorts of strange times and circumstances, the Mass continues
on. The earliest Mass was celebrated in cemeteries, in
underground church-homes, and at martyrdom sites. Giant
cathedral rose up when the Church triumphed in this world. During
persecutions, people built barns and homes with “priest holes” so
that a priest could hide when the police came. Those families went
to great lengths to get an underground priest to visit their homes so
they could have a long-awaited celebration of the Holy Mass.
In our parishes we will continue to offer the Mass with safety
precautions; hopefully not adding too many distractions. One thing is
missing though; more people. Perhaps we need to connect with the
story in the picture below, and become-even more-a missionary parish.
