From Pastor Bob
Pastor Bob
Over the past two decades, Protestant Churches
have experienced serious decline in both member-
ship and worship attendance. Congregations are
now forced to evaluate their ministry, including how
they welcome visitors. Most congregations welcome
visitors by lifting-up the congregation’s strengths: “a
great choir,” “an excellent youth ministry,” or, “really
nice people,” for example. However, according to
recent studies, most visitors are searching for help
with “how to strengthen their faith for daily
living.” If this is true, and I think it is, then we need
to do a better job at lifting-up our New Life groups
here at Trinity. What is the goal of our New Life
groups? The primary goal of our New Life groups is
to help us live-out our faith in daily life! If we want to
grow our membership at Trinity, then we will want to
invite our friends and visitors to our New Life group.
It’s nothing complicated, doesn’t cost a thing, and it
can provide the unchurched with a way to strengthen
their faith for daily living. Who do you think you will
be inviting to join your New Life group?

MEMORIALS AND
HONORARIA
In memory of Sally Walters given by Albert & Kay Piper to the General Fund.
It’s that time of the year again….Back to School! We
are very excited about our students & staff returning
to Trinity Lutheran School for a great school year.
We have a loving, dedicated staff at Trinity and the
School Board would like to help them get the
supplies they need for a successful school year.
Each year our staff buys many of the supplies they
need for their classrooms out of their own pocket.
We would like to extend an opportunity for the entire
congregation to help out our school. In your mail
slots in the Narthex, there is a list of supplies that
have been requested by the teaching staff (a copy is
also on Page 8 of this newsletter) . They are affordable
items that are on sale now for Back to School. If you
would like to help, please purchase some of the
items that are on the list. The quantity you buy is up
to you. Any and all items will help. Once you have
purchased them, please return the items to the
School House. We would appreciate any purchased
items be returned by August 23rd. We appreciate and thank you for your support. Trinity Lutheran School Board

The Quilting Group meets on the second and third Thursday of each month at 9:00 am, in the Fellowship Hall. We have taken the months of July and August off and will resume quilting in September. If you have any questions, please contact Irene Sisson at 407-846-4071. You do not need to be an expert quilter or sewer to join our group. We tie all our quilt tops with yarn. We are in need of people to help put them together. Machine sewers are desperately needed to sew the squares together (for the tops of the quilts). Both ladies and gents are welcome!

Trinity Cookzzz will gather again at the

at 7 pm. Please RSVP to Tony at 407-

you are attending.
Do you like to sing, do you sing along with the radio
in the car? Maybe joining or choir is for you. I have
always loved to sing. I started with chorus in high
school, and have sung with various church
choirs. One year I decided to try and expand my
horizons and spent the next 7 years singing with the
Orlando Choral. It was a challenge, and it did
expand my knowledge of music. I currently am
singing with the Central Florida Community Arts
classical chorus rehearsing Brahms Requiem, a
wonderful and challenging piece, we will be perform-
ing this at Maitland Presbyterian Church on the
6th and 7th of August. I am the director of our church
choir, but I am not specifically musically trained, I am
just an engineer that loves music. So come join our
choir, I promise we will not be doing hard music, as
music is to be a joy to sing, not a struggle, but if
there is enough interest, I may just challenge you a
little. We will be rehearsing just after church on the
3rd and 4th Sundays of the month, starting again in
August, and present our work on the first Sunday of
the month. You-all come.

Here at Trinity, our students and faculty support many different organizations and charities throughout the school year. Money collected from chapel offerings during the month of April enabled the purchase of many items for God’s Global Barnyard. Our donations allowed us to purchase 10 chicks, 1 pig, 1 goat, a hive of bees, a community fish farm as well as water purification tablets; all of which totaled $410. The gifts also provided education, training and resources to support people receiving animals. Thank you to everyone who donated towards this amazing project.
A huge thank you goes out to Kissimmee West Rotary Club who so generously donated $2000 towards Trinity School’s Food Pantry. These funds will enable us to purchase food and snacks
for needy school families.
As the summer progresses, we are getting organized for the new school year. If you have time to spare and would like to work with children for a few hours a day, we are looking for after care assistants. The position is from 3:00pm – 6:00pm, Monday –Friday, 2:00pm – 6:00pm on Wednesday. If you are interested please contact the school office.
We are still accepting applications for enrollment so if you have a child or know of anyone looking for an excellent Christian education for their children please encourage them to come in, learn about our school and take a tour. I can guarantee they will be very impressed!

Those Hymns We Sing!
Have you ever wondered how the hymns are chosen for our Worship Services each week? Pastor and the Worship Team use a resource called Sundays and Seasons that is published by Augsburg Fortress. Sundays and Seasons provides a complete planning guide for every Sunday so that the hymns we are singing correspond to the readings and themes of the day. Some of the sections that are included are Images in the Readings, Ideas for the Day, Connections with the Liturgy, and Let the Children Come. Festival Days and information about the Saints is also included. There are even special sections included for Blessing of Backpacks, Resources for Labor, Memorial, and Veterans Day, and many other specific worship opportuni-ties. Most of the hymns that we sing are found in our ELW (Evangelical Lutheran Worship) hymnbook, but Sundays and Seasons suggests hymns from other resources as well, which we sometimes use. Harry Humphrey and Matt Hirsch, who put together the worship visual for our screen each week, also use the resources in Sundays and Seasons so that we are seeing pictures and colors that correspond directly to
readings and themes of each Sunday. I try to use my Worship Booklet throughout the week as part of my daily devotional time. Even though I LOVE the music, I read the words of each hymn and see how they go along with the readings of the day. Especially for the communion hymns, though, we try to use old favorites. If you would like to have a favorite hymn sung, let a member of the Worship Team know and we will include it in our hymn choices. K eep in mind that we plan several months ahead, but we can always make changes. If you would like to see a copy of Sundays and Seasons or perhaps order your own copy, let Sandy Phillips know. ([email protected]). Here’s a worship thought from Sundays and Seasons to consider: “Many people today want to make a difference with their lives. Can the baptismal life join them to something greater than themselves? Can we encounter in worship God’s passionate desire for our world in such a way that it transforms lives?” We hope the answer is a resounding YES!! Just a reminder, the next Worship and Music Team meeting will be Thursday, Aug. 6, 6:30 PM, in the conference room. Come join us!!

Thank You, 2014-2015 Trinity’s Garden of Hope Tutors
and Volunteers!
Trinity’s Garden of Hope had another successful year. Our Garden of Hope is a tutoring and mentoring program for students attending Trinity Lutheran School or any other area schools. This past year we weekly tutored 27 elementary students. Trinity’s Garden of Hope is successful because our tutors and additional volunteers are committed to making the program succeed. Every Wednes-day during the school year, we gather in the Fellowship Hall from 3:00 – 5:00 pm to tutor students needing extra help mastering basic skills in reading and math or completing homework assign-ments. Tutors encourage students to succeed, play educational games designed to improve basic skills, and focus on individual student needs. Others teach needed skills in small-group sessions, keep records, organize the program and materials, serve snacks, and lead devotions. Grants and donations received during the 2014-2015 year provided needed books, teaching materials, and snacks. Thank you for helping Trinity’s Garden of Hope succeed: Rebecca’s Garden of Hope, Rotary Club
Kissimmee West, and Thrivent Financial. Thank you, tutors and volunteers, for a successful year: Marge Adams, Rhoda Carlstedt, Lois Deland, Natalie Donis, Sharon Donis, Evelyn Duran, Marianne Goodridge, Pr. Bill Hayman, Shirley Hopper, Trevor Horton, Donna Kaufman, Tom Kaufman, Pr. Fred More, Sandy Phillips, Lynda Sartini, Pr. Pete Zieg, and school/church office staff Shelia Miles, Vicki Miller, Susan More, Jessica Anaya, and Julyshams Claudio. Please consider volunteering for TGOH this coming year. You only need to have a desire to help young students succeed and a commitment to attend regularly. Students look forward to seeing their assigned mentor/tutor each week. Look for a sign-up form in church newsletters and church bulletins or contact me. Training sessions will be September 2 and 9, and the tutoring begins on September 16. Hours are 3:00 – 5:00 pm in the Fellowship Hall. Trinity’s Garden of Hope needs you! Judy Zieg, 407-873-4229 or [email protected]

Trinity Lutheran School is now accepting registrations for the 2015-2016 school year. Please help us increase student enrollment next year by referring friends and relatives who may be considering a Christian school environment for their children.
Please consider making a donation to the Edward and Grace Mirth Scholar-ship Fund in memory of a loved one or in honor of a special event in your lives. Many students attending our school need assistance in paying their tuition and this fund makes that possible. On their behalf, we thank you for your donations.

$9,000 Waiting
to be Issued
To Trinity Church &
School
You read that right. A generous
benefactor has at least $9,000 available
this year to be directed to support our
congregation’s ministries, Christian
education programs, facilities, and the
community and worldwide outreach
efforts we support.
How can that be? How do we tap into
these generous resources and use
them to undergird and expand Christ’s
work in this place? Furthermore, this
benefactor desires that their $9,000
serve as “seed money” to leverage
even more resources. Is this a scam or
what?
It’s neither a scam nor a secret, friends.
It’s called Thrivent Action Teams and
last year it already benefited Trinity and
our mission partners in numerous ways.
It even helped support our Trinity youth
who are, as I am writing, taking part on
the ELCA Youth Gathering in Detroit.
Here’s the deal: We have at least 60 active
members of our congregation who are already
members of Thrivent Financial. (And many more of
you could become members!) Each Thrivent
member can establish a Thrivent Action Team
TWICE a year and receive $250 in “seed money”.
Here are three examples.
(1) Last year I sponsored an Action Team that was
used to benefit our Samaritan Angel Tree Ministry
just before Christmas. With the $250, we bought
enough wrapping paper and ribbons for our WOJO
partners to wrap all the gifts you provided, and we
shared the left over paper and ribbons with Help
Now to wrap their kids’ gifts.
(2) At the Trinity Fall fest, I sponsored a team of our
youth to set up an ice cream booth. Thrivent bought
all the ice cream and other supplies, all the funds
raised selling ice cream helped send the youth to
Detroit.
(3) Recently Judie Peters of our Trinity Quilters
activated a team and used the $250 to buy quilting
materials, and they gave many of the quilts to
charitable organizations.
Thrivent’s part is to provide resources to facilitate a
project or event held by an “Action Team.” If you are

Trinity Church and School continually collect food and clothing for our neighbors in Osceola County. Bring your donations of both food and clothing to church, anytime you have gathered a few items together. On a weekly basis, our Samaritans will move the items to storage areas, making sure those donations get to places of need, including our own food pantry. Please #1...make sure your clothing donations are in reasonably good condition. Please #2...when you shop for groceries, remember there are two unseen “guests” who will be dining with you. One is Jesus. The other is a man, woman, or family who will deeply appreciate that they have been given a seat at your table.

hard, I and others stand ready to help. If you’re not

Next month we’ll share more information as we
prepare to enlist you to enthusiastically embrace
this resource to enhance our ministries at and

Trinity’s Girl Scouts Did you know that Trinity sponsors two large Girl Scout troops, which meet every other Monday evening in the Aftercare Building? Girls range in age from 7 to 18 and work on projects within each troop level (Brownies, Juniors, Cadettes, Seniors and Ambassadors). Some of the activities we did this past school year include the Central Florida Indian Pow-wow, Zombie Survival Campout, Scouts Sunday (February), cookie booths in the narthex and in the community, badgework, Cake Decorating, Spring Camporee and a Bridging Ceremony. Service projects are also important, so we made pillowcases for kids with cancer, helped with the FallFest and FunFest events, made candy sleighs for Troops Overseas, collected recycled shoes, and made cards for a fellow Girl Scout with Stage 4 cancer. Girls Scouts is all about learning to be fine Young Women of Courage, Confidence and Character. Trinity’s Scout leaders are Monica Folk, Nathalie Lambert, Jeannette Wize and Laurel Birks-Kilman. We are in need of additional adult leaders, and are recruiting girls for this coming school-year, which starts back up in September. If you are interested, call Monica
at 407-870-8603.
