FC-MEN are gathering for a ‘Boots on the Ground’ day of service, on September 20. This is an all day service event, gathering at First Christian at 8:30 a.m. for rolls, coffee and juice. We will have some fellowship and prayer before teaming up to go out and serve persons and families in our church family. Bring a sack lunch so we can eat at the worksite. Water in coolers will be provided. We will wrap up the day by returning to the church for a light supper at the shelter – the grills will be loaded and ready to feed a hungry crew. So sign up for a day of fellowship, fun, service and FOOD!

Project signup will be posted at the FC JOURNEY-MEN table from August 31 through September 14. Projects will include painting, lawn work, light handyman repairs, and visitation to those homebound. Requests for help by our service teams

should be directed to the First Christian

office.

Filling Shelves to Bless Our Church Planters

FINAL CHANCE!

In August we are gathering food, paper products, and gift cards for the Connection Christian Church planters, Mike & Kara Moser and Josh & Amy

Muehlbauer. Stores in Columbus, Nebraska include Menard’s, Wal-Mart, and Hy-Vee. Let’s fill their shelves and stomachs with love! Food, and paper products can be dropped off in the big box in the lobby. Gift cards can be dropped off in the offering or at the Connection Center.

Office Closed The FC Office will be closed Monday, September 1 for the Labor Day holiday. Enjoy the long weekend!

Do you need some light repairs or help around your house? If you need help with repairs around the house, moving, lifting, clean up, lawn work, handy man type of activities or maybe just a simple visit, let us know! Our FC Men are designating September 20 as a day of service to single moms, elderly, disabled, or mechanically challenged. Contact Kellye at the office 402-371-5734 to sign up.

Meals on Wheels~September 22-October 17 FC has volunteered to serve those that are disabled, sick or hurt by delivering meals to their homes. If you are interested in helping, sign up at the Connection Center or call Elaine Werner at 402-371-9065.

I love the All Church Family Picnic; the food, relaxing, horseshoes, the big slide, and the crowd. I love the crowd. It is fun to be part of the crowd. But community brings joy. That is why I really love the picnic. The picnic is a good environment to grow community.

Without community you are always in a crowd, a face just coming and going. But in community you are known and wanted and missed. In a crowd you can be lonely. In community you are not alone. Real community takes more than picnics and Sundays at

church. Real community happens in relationship over time, as in LifeGroups. In a LifeGroup, you are valuable. You have a story. You belong. People care for you. You have something worth sharing. You have relationship with others who become friends; friends who need you and on whom you can depend. You encourage one another. Your faith is real and dynamic and growing as part of community of people. Community is not always easy, and neither are LifeGroups, but it's the only way to have lasting and life transforming relationships, something we all want. LifeGroup community happens in homes, around food, in the midst of conversation, over time, and during life's activities. This kind of spiritual community helps people grow more like Christ and to reach out with Christ. That is why I expect all of us will desire to be in a LifeGroup.

Onward and Upward, PS Huge thanks go out to the Fellowship Team, Randall, the cooks, the Gadekens and Siebrandts (horses), Ron Hilkeman (hay rack ride) those who brought food, and those who set up, cleaned up, and tore down. Together, you handled the crowd very well.

NO FUEL SUNDAY!

See you the following Sunday, September 7!

This year, LATM helped publish Denver Sizemore's 13 Lessons in Christian Doctrine in Malayalam, and Don Tingle's 28 Days in Matthew in Somali. Those are new languages for us, which is satisfying, but I mention these because they represent an important shift in our world. Half of the Malayalam books will remain in southwest India, and a New York church will use the other half among the Malayalam-speaking population in their area. Many of the Somali books will be used in East Africa, as you would expect,

but a big portion of them will be used in US cities with Somalian populations. It is possible that your in a community with a large number of immigrants. Although it is not always easy to find ways to minister to them and to tell them the Good News, we need to redouble our efforts. Why? Because we used to think that to discipline the nations involved passports and plane fares, but today, going to serve a people group might just be a drive through town. LATM can be part of the solution, but it will take each of us – Philippians 2:13 – doing our part to let the world at our doorstep know about Christ.
