Child of Prague
With the Pope to Sri Lanka and the Philippines Tele Lumiere accompanied Pope Francis in his visit to Sri Lanka
from the 12th to the 15th of January, and his journey to the Philippines, which
lasts up to the 19th of the present month, under the theme "Keep Firm in
Love." In Sri Lanka, the pearl of the Indian Ocean, the Holy Father underlined
during his official, ecumenical and popular encounters that the journey of recov-
ery from the effects of war requires in addition to the search for truth- justice
and unity. The Holy Father called for the acceptance of others, respect of the
legitimate differences and learning to live together as one family, encouraging the
deepening of ecumenical cooperation and the non-use of religious beliefs for
violence and war. During his visit, Pope Francis declared the canonization of
Blessed Joseph Vaz who served the poor and sick, and went out to the sub-
urbs in order to let others know Jesus and love Him everywhere. Regarding the
fruits, and implementing his message of peace, reconciliation and forgiveness, a presidential amnesty was issued when
612 prisoners, including 37 women were released. The Supreme Pontiff continued his journey heading to Manila,
where he will have important stops, added to the official and ecumenical encounters, as the meeting with the families,
the survivors of Yolanda Hurricane and with the youth.

Be One When they say he died and everything ended, He has risen and it was the begin-
ning. They sowed doubts among people, arrested and treated all His witnesses with violence. Will these events make
them stronger or will they decline and have fear in front of torture and death?
Will their unity save them?

SIGNIS, the World Catholic Association for Communication condemned
unequivocally the terrible attack on the offices of the Charlie Hebdo magazine, joining with the Holy Father and representatives of all religions who have condemned this attack and the
actions of all those who spread hatred, fear and violence, which in the words of Pope Francis, “destroys human
life, violates the dignity of the person, radically undermines the fundamental good of peaceful coexistence between individuals and peoples, despite differences of nationality, religion and culture.” As communicators, they reaffirmed their commitment to work for a culture of peace which respects the life and dignity of everyone, reiterated their support for the fundamental principle of freedom of expression and for all those journalists around the world who
face the threat of death or injury in carrying out their profession. Finally, SIGNIS called on all people of good will to join together to help build a world where those of all cultures and faiths may live and work together in peace.
