Your “Treasures in Heaven” enable us to provide quality children’s and youth programs both Sunday mornings and Wednesday evenings. We have the opportunity to share Christ to our Academy students through weekly Chapel and Christian Education classes as well as proclaiming the gospel and building leaders at Palm Desert Charter Middle School helping them to connect with God. **MISSIONS MISSIVES**

Greetings,

Your Missions Committee is pleased & excited to announce a special visit

from one of our international missions teams, OUR CALL MISSIONS, from

Uganda.

They will be visiting Palm Desert November 8th – 13th. We are looking

forward to Sunday, November 12th when Keith and Lisa Coggins will be

presenting a message about their ministry. These two missionaries came to

Uganda in 2002 to answer the Father’s call to represent him there. They began

at Good Shepherd’s Fold (GSF), a home for orphans. After 4 years, they

moved to Northern Uganda, where the LRA had been terrorizing for over 20

years. God placed them into a “vision for instilling a Bible perspective to the

world view of the next generation of children”.

The Sanctuary of Grace Christian Academy is located near Gulu, Uganda & is

located in a village called Ocuka. The school has children from 4 years

old through 7th grade & is the home base for the “Roots to Fruits Christian

Curriculum”. While working at the orphanage, they became aware of the

inadequacy of the Ugandan school system. As legally required, they began to

research how it could be altered and yet still remain Ugandan. They developed

the format and structure of a Christian Home-School curriculum. The most

important aspect of the curriculum is that it is all from the biblical perspective.

“We want the roots to go deep in God’s word for the production of good fruit.”

They also planted a church in the village.

Outside of their Sanctuary of Grace, when contemplating what the Lord

wanted them to do to distribute this curriculum into the extreme, remote

villages in Northern Uganda & South Sudan, they were given the vision of

Village Learning Centers. These are multi grade classrooms being established

in remote areas in partnership with the villages. With the new country of South

Sudan, just a couple hours away, they now have approval for adapting “Roots

to Fruits” for their education.

In 2015 the Educators Development Center began to train teachers as

missionaries to their people. These educators are using the “Roots to Fruits

Curriculum”. They use their training and gifts to help shape the minds of

children to think biblically; praying they will follow Jesus as well as

evangelizing their parents. There are now over 100 schools that have

requested to use this Bible based Christian curriculum. Funding is needed to

finish this development of the “Roots to Fruits” curriculum, provide more

writers’ salaries, printing costs and readers.

We are eagerly looking forward to the Coggins visit and pray for a wide

congregational attendance and response to their dynamic, biblically based

ministry.

In Christ’s Name.

OPERATION CHRISTMAS CHILD

Are you ready to bring joy and Jesus to children all over the world, one shoebox at a time? Join us as we serve alongside Samaritan’s Purse through the ministry Operation Christmas Child. Every year, millions of people like you pack shoeboxes and drop them off at thousands of locations. Another 9,000+ volunteers serve year-round to support the project. Join the faithful servants of Christ who make this happen.

Shoeboxes will be available for you to pick up, take home and fill by November 12. Look for our table in the courtyard under the Olive tree. You can also pick up boxes at the church office during the weekdays.

You can also choose to build a shoebox online for just $25.00! Go online to www.samaritanspurse.org and click on the “Build Your Shoebox” tab and scroll down to “Build your Shoebox Online”. What a great way to be involved from the convenience of your own home!

Packing a shoebox is so much more than just giving a child toys and gifts! In addition to hearing the Gospel before they receive their shoebox gift, children also receive The Greatest Gift, a storybook that shares the message of salvation. With the Apostle John as narrator, the booklet shares 11 Scripture stories and invites children to follow Christ. Children take this home to share with family and friends. It is used in more than 80 languages.

After receiving shoebox gifts, many children are invited back to participate in our discipleship program, The Greatest Journey. Through this 12-lesson course, which includes Bible stories and Scripture memorization, they learn how to follow Christ in their daily lives as they share Him with friends and family.

After completing The Greatest Journey, children attend a graduation celebration and receive a certificate. Most importantly, they are given a Bible that includes the New Testament and selected Old Testament stories along with a dictionary of Biblical terms and a map of Bible lands. Complete with illustrations, it is often the first copy of God’s Word the child, or their family, will own.

Family and friends who attend the ceremony hear the Gospel of Jesus Christ. Hearing the Good News and testimonies during their loved one’s graduation reinforces the changes they have seen in the students’ lives, and their families often come to faith in Christ.

Please contact Sandy Rhoades at 760-296-7001 or email: [email protected] or phone: 760-296-7001 with questions or to join our wonderful team of volunteers!

Stephen Ministers ~ the After People

People often ask, “What exactly is a Stephen Minister?”

One way to put it is that Stephen Ministers are

the After People.

Stephen Ministers are there:

...after the phone call you hoped you’d never get.

...after the divorce papers are served and the bottom falls out

of your life.

...after the funeral, when everyone has left and the emotions

you’ve held at bay come crashing in on you.

...after the doctor says, “I’m sorry, but there’s nothing more

we can do.”

...after the nursing home director shakes your hand and

says, “Welcome to your new home.”

...after the last child honks the horn, waves, and drives away

and the house suddenly seems empty.

...after the gavel goes down, the handcuffs go on, and your

loved one is led away.

...after the baby arrives, demanding more of you than you

ever dreamed possible.

...after you find a pink slip with your final paycheck.

...after your family and friends have heard the story one too

many times, but you still need to talk it out.

Stephen Ministers are the “After People.” They are ready to come alongside you - or your friends, neighbors, co-workers, or relatives - and provide comfort and support for as long after as needed.

If you would like a Stephen Minister or more information about Stephen Ministry please contact Joan Larsen at

Sewing 4 Kids

Good Morning…..One of us will be here to welcome any volunteers to our group. We have been using the past few months to shop for supplies and patterns and trying to find new projects that we can make for our Christmas give-a-way.

We never sell our items; they are all made with love and given to the needy. The sewing, knitting and crocheting never stops. Please stop by our table in Miller Hall today to see our displays. Till next time…

Blessings Pat Noakes, Chairperson 760-341-6382

We meet EVERY THURSDAY from 9 to noon in Rm. 104 of FLC.

Mending Hearts Good morning! Can you believe it’s November?!

Thank God for keeping us safe in your vision again

and again. We can demonstrate our thankfulness

by showing “God’s love” to those who are less

fortunate or in dire need of necessities.

We at Mending Hearts are trying to produce prayer blankets, teddy bears, scarves and quilts as our main contributions. A large container is leaving for Russia this month for Christmas.

One more item can make a lifelong gift to one person. Let’s show

them Jesus and Christian love.

Please view our display table after church and visit every Thursday

in Miller Hall from 9:00 to noon. Bring a friend!

Blessings, Maureen Mulcahey, Director 760-636-4828
