Together, let’s make this Lent count! I remind myself year after year to make this Lent be the best one yet. I can honestly say that there has been some Lents where I have taken these sacred days seriously and there have been others where I have taken this sacred season for granted. So how do we take Lent seriously? Regardless of whatever we give up or commit to give back during Lent, our aim must be to grow in our relationship with Jesus Christ. In his Lenten message for 2020, Pope Francis writes: This year the Lord grants us, once again, a favorable time
to prepare to celebrate with renewed hearts the great mystery of the death and resurrection of Jesus, the cornerstone of our personal and communal Christian life. We must continually return to this mystery in mind and heart, for it will continue to grow within us in the measure that we are open to its spiritual power and respond with
freedom and generosity… In this Lent of 2020, I would like to share with
every Christian what I wrote to young people in the Apostolic Exhortation Christus Vivit: “Keep your eyes fixed on the outstretched arms of Christ crucified, let yourself be saved over and over again. And when you go to confess your sins, believe firmly in his mercy which frees you of your guilt. Contemplate his blood poured out with such great love, and let yourself be cleansed by it. In this way, you can be reborn ever anew.” So, whether we commit to give up something or give back to God and others, this must be our aim. We must keep our eyes fixed on Jesus. Throughout this Lent, we as a parish will have many opportunities to fix our eyes on Jesus. Our Thursday Holy Hours, Friday Stations of the Cross, and our vicariate Reconciliation Services will provide all of us opportunities to encounter Jesus. It is my hope and prayer that all of us will take these days of Lent seriously and witness the transformation in each of us in these sacred days.

¡Juntos, hagamos que esta Cuaresma cuente! Me recuerdo año tras
año hacer que esta Cuaresma sea la mejor hasta ahora. Puedo decir
honestamente que ha habido algunas Cuaresmas en las que he tomado
en serio estos días sagrados y ha habido otras en las que he dado por
sentado esta temporada sagrada. Entonces, ¿cómo tomamos en serio
la Cuaresma? Independientemente de lo que renunciemos o nos com-
prometamos a devolver durante la Cuaresma, nuestro objetivo debe
ser crecer en nuestra relación con Jesucristo.
En su mensaje de Cuaresma para 2020, el Papa Francisco escribe:
Este año, el Señor nos otorga, una vez más, un momento favorable
para prepararnos para celebrar con corazones renovados el gran misterio de la muerte y resurrección de
Jesús, la piedra angular de nuestra vida cristiana personal y comunitaria. Debemos regresar continuamen-
te a este misterio en mente y corazón, ya que seguirá creciendo dentro de nosotros en la medida en que
estamos abiertos a su poder espiritual y respondemos con libertad y generosidad ... En esta Cuaresma de
2020, me gustaría compartir con Todo cristiano que escribí a los jóvenes en la Exhortación Apostólica
Christus Vivit: “Mantén tus ojos fijos en los brazos extendidos de Cristo crucificado, déjate salvar una y
otra vez. Y cuando vayas a confesar tus pecados, cree firmemente en su misericordia que te libera de tu
culpa. Contempla su sangre derramada con tanto amor y déjate purificar por ella. De esta manera,
puedes renacer de nuevo.
Entonces, ya sea que nos comprometamos a renunciar a algo o a Dios y a otros, este debe ser nuestro
objetivo. Debemos mantener nuestros ojos fijos en Jesús. A lo largo de esta Cuaresma, nosotros como
parroquia tendremos muchas oportunidades de fijar nuestros ojos en Jesús. Nuestro Jueves Horas Santas,
Viernes Estaciones de la Cruz, y nuestros Servicios de Reconciliación Vicariatos nos brindarán a todos
oportunidades para encontrarnos con Jesús. Es mi esperanza y oración que todos tomemos en serio estos
días de Cuaresma y presenciemos la transformación en cada uno de nosotros en estos días sagrados.

from Joe Nowakowski The red Sanctuary Lamp above the Tabernacle burns to remind us of the sacramental presence of Jesus Christ. If you wish to have the Sanctuary Candle burning in memory of a loved one, to honor a special occasion, or a special intention, you can make arrangements with the Parish Office. The cost of the candle is $20 and it burns for one week. A notice of your intention will be posted in the bulletin.
