INVOCATION

ANTHEM Hero . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . Kirk FranklinThe heavens were silent, the earth wept in pain. Nations were trembling and hope never came. A terror filled the air and it wouldn’t go away. We needed a hero to come and save…Famine and hunger, disease in the land. The hatred, the killing taking lives from your hand. Creation waits through the darkness we pray. Tell me where is the hero to come and save…Through the nails, through the thorns, from the hill to the grave was a voice in the distance, the lamb that was slain. My soul had no song and my debt I couldn’t pay. When I needed a hero you came and you saved…To the homeless, the widow, the fatherless son, to the sick and the broken alone with no one. Lift up your head, your hope is on the way. When we needed a hero you came and you saved the day. When the curtain had closed and it felt like the end, when your blood caught the fall and took away every sin, even though men deny, You’re the only sacrifice that loved us enough, You loved us so much, Lord, that you gave your life, You saved my life. Now I can see you, I’m no longer ashamed. Your power I feel, see our lives have exchanged. Every wrong is erased, Jesus. You are my hero, you came and you saved the day.

PASTORAL PRAYER AND THE LORD’S PRAYER Our Father, who art in heaven, hallowed be thy name, thy kingdom come, thy will be done, on earth as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread. And forgive us our debts, as we forgive our debtors. And lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil. For thine is the kingdom, and the power, and the glory, for ever. Amen.

Easter Offering 2019 SpotlightTHE AL AMANA CENTRE We introduce you to an organization whose primary role is to facilitate interfaith dialogue and collaboration — The Al Amana Centre — located in the Sultanate of Oman.

Only days ago, we read similar reports as the one below from CNN:

“(CNN) — Fifty people were killed and fifty others wounded in a terror attack on two mosques in Christchurch, New Zealand, police announced Sunday. The unprecedented mass shootings were carefully planned, and have shocked the usually peaceful nation.”

For over 100 years, The Al Amana Centre’s work has been to avoid the potential for tragedies as the one above. They believe that we live in a global age in which one act, whether it is political, economic, religious, or cultural, can have a worldwide impact; that our futures are now interconnected, and it will take the cooperation of all segments of society to live in harmony with one another. They have quoted Hans Küng, a world renowned scholar and friend of Oman, who said there will be “no peace between nations unless there is peace between religions.”

The Al Amana Centre truly believes dialogue is a tool to create change in a peaceful manner and is one of the most important tools to build connections between parties and groups. One of their priorities is to lift up the role of religion in dialogue. Hence, they create spaces to support groups that want to discuss the role of religion in their contexts — how reconciliation is being understood in different religions, how different religions understand forgiveness, or some other essential points in people’s lives.

The Al Amana Center is one of over fifty nonprofits that Marble has supported through our Easter Offering. Our goal this year is to raise $230,000, 100% of which will be granted to nonprofits making a positive difference in the lives of many. Here are the ways in which you can give:

• Use an Easter Offering envelope found in the pews, the Marble Loft and at Reception

• Give online: MarbleChurch.org/give/easter-offering• Mail checks to Marble, attention: Easter Offering• Call 212-686-2770, ext. 248 to give over the phone

We thank you, the Marble Community, for your ongoing support and may we continue to live into Jesus’ call to us in which he says,

“A new command I give you: Love one another. As I have loved you, so you must love one another.” — John 13:34 (NIV)
