Youth activities have been in full swing for the month of April even though we took a break for the Easter holiday. There were two special events for the youth which even allowed several new volunteers in the church to come and share their talents for the youth. It has been such a blessing getting to work alongside these new faces! I constantly share this with my recurring leaders, but seeing so many volunteers from different ages, talents and backgrounds just goes to show that anyone can truly make a difference in a young person’s life. On April 12, we enjoyed our first of two special events having an evening bonfire in the church parking lot. We cooked hot dogs over the fire, made smores for dessert, and played a competitive round of volleyball! Shortly after on April 27, we played a game of Human CLUE utilizing many of the central rooms and buildings around church. Youth had a blast interviewing all of our special guests in an attempt to solve the “who ‘dun it” murder mystery. As we gear up for May it saddens me to say we will be winding down for our yearly schedule of youth group. We have only a few youth group meetings left this month before summer arrives, but all youth are welcome to join us for any or all of our remaining weeks. Not to worry however, because even though youth group will be on hiatus for summer there are plenty of ways to stay involved! VBS is just around the corner along with summer camp at Camp Cedar Glen. All registered youth with NUMC or our weekly youth group are even eligible for a discount for Camp Cedar Glen, so be sure to take full advantage of this opportunity should your youth wish to go!

SENIOR MINISTRIES

The Senior Ministries program at NUMC has been in process for the past eight years. During that

time we have seen growth and many activities evolve to provide many different services to our

seniors. Many volunteers have been added to the program and many services given to our

seniors. It is our hope that this program is not only of value to the seniors but that younger

members of our congregation will see our caring for our elderly as of part of the overall caring

ministries of NUMC.

Here are the different programs that Senior Ministries offers and those who lead the groups

involved.

valuable service for our seniors. If you can spare a little time to join Senior Ministries please contact

Movie Night On Monday May 13 at 7:00 p.m. in the Kendall Building, Church and Society will screen "Won't you be my neighbor?" a documentary about Fred Rogers, Presbyterian minister, children's advocate and the most beloved republican since Abe Lincoln.

From 1968 to 2001 Mr. Rogers offered a half hour program designed to counter cartoon violence of other children's programs on the air. It received acclaim from critics and audiences and has grossed $22 million making it the highest-grossing biographical documentary of all time.

The film runs 94 minutes and is rated PG-13 for thematic elements and language.

Annual Postal Service Food Drive

Please join us on Saturday, May 11. We will be packing the truck at the Northridge Post Office at 9534 Reseda Blvd., Northridge, from 2:30 p.m. until 5:00 p.m.

You will need to dress comfortably, wear sturdy shoes (not sandals), wear a hat, bring sunscreen and bring your own water. North Valley Caring Services will provide the trucks, snacks and some water. This is hard work, so you need to be able to lift. If you can help, please contact Amybeth Lake or Manny Flores at NVCS (818) 891-0481. Thank you for your support!
