The theme of our Stewardship Campaign this
year is “Called to Be the Church—Loving Our
Neighbours”. We do this by offering our gratitude
in all that we are, say and do. We are called to
give of our time, our talents and our money to the
life, work and ministry of the church at St. An-
drew’s and beyond. We are called to be a Church that is eager to
be involved in the Mission and Ministry of a God who loves us un-
conditionally. We are enough! We have enough! and we are a
grateful and giving people.
Our Vision
To live as Christ would have us live, in love, with compassion and seeking
justice, by sharing God’s grace, learning from scripture,
growing through the Spirit and being transformed by faith.
WASHROOMS: Wheelchair accessible and gender neutral bathrooms are located outside the lower auditorium. They can be accessed by the stairs in the Narthex or the elevator outside the church office.

The Anthem this Week
The choir sang “Requiem” by Canadian composer, Eleanor Daley in 2012. Our anthem this week, “in Remem-brance” is the central feature of that work, composed in 1993. The copy we are using suggests that the author of the poem is unknown, but two researchers in 1998 concluded that it was written by Mary Elizabeth Frye in 1932, who was so moved by the plight of a German Jewish woman staying with her in Baltimore. The woman told her that her mother had died, and she had been unable to “stand by a grave and shed a tear” because of the growing threats to the Jewish people in Hitler’s Germany. The poem has become a great favorite across the English speaking world, and has also been set to music by many composers.
Dean Pollard, trumpet, will play “The Last Post”, followed by two minutes of silence, and then piper Robyn McCombe will play “The Flowers of the Forest ”. The Flowers of the Forest is now the official lament of the Ca-nadian Forces, played to honour fallen soldiers. It dates back to 1513, memorializing James 1V’s defeated Scottish army at the Battle of Flodden. With the death of James and over 10,000 of his men, it describes the grief of women and children at the loss of their young men. “The pride of the land lay cold in the clay.” The tune was played at Queen Victoria’s funeral in 1901, which has added to its more recent popularity. Also referred to as “The Lament”, it is used at services of remembrance and funerals. At Remembrance Day ceremonies, the great Highland bagpipe breaks the one (or two) minutes of Silence by the playing of The Lament. Then follows the Reveille, which implies hope that there will be a day when the living and the dead arise together.
During the service next Sunday, the choir will sing “Requiem” by French composer, Gabriel Fauré.
