Greater Impact Update

What a grand day our Prayer Commitment Sunday was! I was so moved to see so many folks come forward to commit themselves to 40 days of prayer, and then to circle the sanctuary to unite in prayer for our church. At the conclusion of the services, 417 people committed to pray for 40 days. I had announced an ambitious goal of 500 people praying together for themselves, this church, and this community. What an incredible start! If you forgot your card this last Sunday or if you were not present, it is not too late to turn yours in! You may mail it in, or send an email to [email protected] indicating that you will join us in the 40 days of prayer, or you may put it in the offering plate next Sunday.

Again, I encourage you to seek the face of God and to sincerely ask Him how He wants you to use the gifts He has given you. Ask Him for a heart that longs to do His will. Ask the Lord to speak to you about the Greater Impact our church can have in the community. Ask Him to show you how you can participate financially and in service. But above all, as you spend time in prayer, please sit still and listen! Ponder the things that come to your heart. Relax and let the Spirit bring things to mind. Prayer is not just us pouring our hearts out to God, but also allowing God to pour Himself into us. It takes a period of quietness and stillness to hear from Him.

Over the next few Sundays you will hear testimonies from me and some other leaders. We will share what we are hearing the Lord say to us about our commitments of service and giving. We have been praying about this for a few weeks and we hope these will be an encouragement to you. We are not giving these testimonies to model what anyone else should do, because the Lord will lead each of us according to His plan. Yet, I feel that sharing the process of how we arrive at hearing from the Lord will be valuable to all.

This coming Sunday all of the Sunday School classes will start Bible studies related to our Greater Impact Challenge. Lessons should have been distributed last Sunday, but if you do not have yours, you can pick one up in the church office this week, as well as in the classes next week.

Childcare is provided during all services for babies through 5 year olds. The new system, Xtra, uses the Promiseland Bible story of the day and reinforces it with activities and games using the central theme. In this way, your child will be learning the same ideas about God whether he/she is there for one hour or an extended part of the morning. All of this learning at any hour is interspersed with age- appropriate play, music, and more.
