Christmas Toy Drive
Our Annual Toy Drive for needy children in the area begins Sunday, Dec. 11
thru Sunday Jan. 1, 2018. Please support our drive by placing toys and gifts inside the box located next to the pulpit in both the upper and lower
churches.
Recommended gifts include games, dolls, plush stuffed animals, books, puzzles, educational toys, and sporting goods. (PLEASE no violent toys). We accept individual gifts, office collections, and cash donations. Ages of
children are from infants to age 18.

“The Angelus prayer is a beautiful popular expression of the faith,” Pope Francis said. “It is a simple prayer, recited at three specific times during the day. It thus punctuates the rhythm of our daily activities: in the morning, at midday, and at sunset. It is an important prayer. I encourage each of you to recite it, along with the Hail Mary. It reminds us of the luminous event that transformed history: The Incarnation, the moment when the Son of God became man in Jesus of Nazareth. Every time we pray the Angelus, we recall the event that changed the history of mankind forever.” He then added that not only do we recall history’s most important fact, but we enter into Mary’s response to it with faith and charity. “When the Angel Gabriel proclaimed to Mary that she would become the Mother of Jesus the Savior,” Pope Francis continued, “even without understanding the full significance of that call, she trusted God and replied: ‘Behold, I am the handmaid of the Lord; let it be to me according to your word.’ But what did she do immediately afterwards? On receiving the grace of being the Mother of the Incarnate Word, she did not keep that gift to herself. With a sense of responsibility, she set off from her home and went in haste to help her kinswoman Elizabeth, who was in need of assistance. She carried out an act of love, of charity, and of practical service, bringing Jesus who was in her womb. And she did all this in haste!” The Angelus, in other words, helps us to learn from Mary how to grasp the startling news that God-with-us here and now, to let our lives develop according to His Word and will, and to act on that Word and will with urgency as we spend our day seeking to love others as God summons us to do. With the help of Mary’s intercession, the well-prayed Angelus, perhaps better than any other spiritual practice, helps us to always remember His Real Presence in the Host and with us wherever we are.
"La oración del Ángelus es una bella expresión popular de la fe", dijo el Papa Francisco. "Es una oración simple, recitada en tres momentos específicos durante el día. Por lo tanto, acentúa el ritmo de nuestras actividades diarias: por la mañana, al mediodía y al atardecer. Es una oración importante. Animo a cada uno de ustedes a recitarlo, junto con el Ave María. Nos recuerda el evento luminoso que transformó la historia: la Encarnación, el momento en que el Hijo de Dios se hizo hombre en Jesús de Nazaret. Cada vez que rezamos el Ángelus, recordamos el evento que cambió la historia de la humanidad para siempre ". Luego agregó que no solo recordamos el hecho más importante de la historia, sino que entramos en la respuesta de María con fe y caridad.
"Cuando el ángel Gabriel le proclamó a María que se convertiría en la Madre de Jesús el Salvador", continuó el Papa Francisco, "aun sin entender el significado completo de esa llamada, ella confió en Dios y respondió: 'He aquí, yo soy la sierva del Salvador. Señor, hágase en mí según tu palabra. Pero, ¿qué hizo ella inmediatamente después? Al recibir la gracia de ser la Madre del Verbo encarnado, ella no guardó ese regalo para ella misma. Con un sentido de responsabilidad, partió de su casa y se apresuró a ayudar a su parienta Elizabeth, que necesitaba ayuda. Ella llevó a cabo un acto de amor, de caridad y de servicio práctico, trayendo a Jesús que estaba en su vientre. ¡Y ella hizo todo esto a toda prisa!
El Ángelus, en otras palabras, nos ayuda a aprender de María cómo captar las sorprendentes noticias de Dios con nosotros aquí y ahora, para permitir que nuestras vidas se desarrollen de acuerdo con Su Palabra y voluntad, y para actuar en esa Palabra y voluntad con urgencia mientras pasamos el día buscando amar a los demás como Dios nos llama a hacer.
Con la ayuda de la intercesión de María, el Ángelus bien rezado, tal vez mejor que cualquier otra práctica espiritual, nos ayuda a recordar siempre Su Presencia Real la Hostia y con nosotros donde sea que estemos.
