LIFEDOESNOTHAVEINSTANTREPLAY!I am amazed at how many cameras it takes to televise a sporting eventtoday. There aremany angles of the play availablewhen they use instantreplay. Instant replay helps the officiating crewmake the right call. It isused tocorrectmistakesandmanywish theyhad that same luxury in lifetoday.Wehavetolivewithourmistakesandwesufferwhenwemakebaddecisions. How and what we look at can help us tremendously in ourdecisionmaking. Here is some advice from scripture onwhatwe look at.Consider God’s words to Habakkuk, Look among the nations and see;wonderandbeastounded.ForIamdoingaworkinyourdaysthatyouwouldnotbelieveiftold (Hab.1:5).God is stillworking for us today as hewas inHabakkuk’s time.Don’tmake themistake of thinkingGod isnotaware orworking for us today. Consider Paul’s advice, aswe looknot tothe thingsthatareseenbut tothethingsthatareunseen.Forthe thingsthatare seenare transient, but the things that are unseen are eternal (2 Cor.5:18).Wechooseeverydaywhatwewanttobelieveinandwhatwewanttotrustin.Choosingwithoutseeingtakesfaith,andGodwillblessthosewhotakethatleap of faith. Consider Jesus’ words after He had reached someone Hisdisciplesthoughtwasunreachable.Myfoodistodothewillofhimwhosentmeandtoaccomplishhiswork.Look,Itellyou,liftusyoureyes,andseethatthefieldsareripeforharvest(Jo.4:34,35).Wecanreachthelost.ThatisthewillofGod.Therearemanywhoneedwhatwehave in theLord. We justneedtoseethem!ConsiderPaul’swordsagain.Lookcarefullythenhowyouwalk, not as unwise but as wise (Eph.5:15).We do not have the careless, aimless, andharmfulwalkoftheunbelievers.Wewalkwithpurpose, love, andservice;this isthewisewalk.Whatareyoulookingattoday?Areyoulooking for the eternal or the temporary? Like our children sing: “Oh, becarefullittleeyeswhatyousee!“

BenevolenceMinisterBible Class Join us for Bible Class this Sunday @ 9:00. This quarter our Bible Classes are studying Matthew & Exodus. The title of our study is “The Gift of the King" The lesson this week… “Rebel Heart" from Numbers 14. More on this in class this Sunday morning! Consider the following from Numbers 14:4-9 “4Andtheysaidtoeachother,“Weshouldchoosea leaderandgo back to Egypt.”5Then Moses and Aaron fellfacedownin front of the whole Israeliteassemblygathered there.6Joshua son of Nunand Calebson of Jephunneh, who were among those who hadexplored the land, tore their clothes7and said to theentire Israelite assembly, “The land we passed throughandexplored isexceedingly good.8If theLordispleasedwithus, hewillleadusintothatland, alandflowingwithmilk and honey, and will give it to us.9Only do notrebelagainsttheLord.Anddonotbeafraidofthepeopleof the land, because we will devour them. Theirprotection is gone, but theLordis withus.Do not beafraidofthem.”Leadership Training For Christ LTC Practices are listed in the Youth Ministry Column. If you haven’t turned in your forms… please do so ASAP!!!

I hope that you are keeping our nation and our leaders in your prayers, especially this week. With the inauguration of a new president and vice president, a new chapter in our country begins. As you know, this new chapter is starting with much concern by some and optimism by others, illustrating our deeply divided and polarized union.

In the midst of these important events let’s be reminded of these words from the apostles Peter and Paul.

Submit yourselves for the Lord’s sake to every human authority: whether to the emperor, as the supreme authority, 14 or to governors, who are sent by him to punish those who do wrong and to commend those who do right. 15 For it is God’s will that by doing good you should silence the ignorant talk of foolish people. 16 Live as free people, but do not use your freedom as a cover-up for evil; live as God’s slaves.17 Show proper respect to everyone, love the family of believers, fear God, honor the emperor. (1 Peter 2:13-17)

I urge, then, first of all, that petitions, prayers, intercession and thanksgiving be made for all people— 2 for kings and all those in authority, that we may live peaceful and quiet lives in all godliness and holiness. 3 This is good, and pleases God our Savior, 4 who wants all people to be saved and to come to a knowledge of the truth. 5 For there is one God and one mediator between God and mankind, the man Christ Jesus, 6 who gave himself as a ransom for all people. This has now been witnessed to at the proper time. (1 Tim. 2:1-6)

For the Christian, we recognize that whoever is in power, we will be submissive and respectful and prayerful. We recognize that we best serve our God “by doing good,” and that our ultimate allegiance is to the “one God and one mediator between God and mankind, the man Christ Jesus, who gave Himself…”

The Children’s Library will be open in the interval between the Sunday morning Bible classes and the worship period. This time window of opportunity will facilitate a more efficient use of the library’s holdings.

BLAST is learning about God the Creator for the next few weeks. We are learning the days of creation and how powerful God is. We are also discussing how much God loves us and wants a relationship with us. Encourage your children to look for other children that have a difficult time fitting in at school, help them connect with each other. This is a way to show Christ in their lives on a daily basis. LTC Bible Quiz practice is under way on Sunday evenings and Puppet/Drama practice will start in February. We are excited to see how our kids Make Him Known as they learn more about the book of Acts. Kids: Let your friends know that we are planning our next Kids’ Night Out in the annex on February 4th. We have a closed group on Facebook called West Erwin Children’s Ministry. If you are not already in this group but would like to keep up with us in this way, email me at [email protected]. Remember: VBS is June 11-14
