Sunday’s Sermon WHAT TO PRAY THIS WEEK This Sunday’s Music SONGS OF WORSHIP As we prepare for corporate worship, meditate on the lyrics from some of our songs of worship. 1. Pray for those who will lead in worship: Pastor J. Josh Smith Bryant Jones and the MBBC Worship Ministry 2. Pray that the Holy Spirit will move in our corporate gatherings, leading us to exalt Jesus Christ. 3. Pray that MBBC will grow in Christ-exalting, Kingdom- advancing ministry in 2014. 4. Pray that God continues to stir our hearts to live with Kingdom ambition, striving to lead people to trust and follow Christ! 5. Pray with faith, knowing that God hears and longs to answer the requests of His people! This coming Sunday we will look at one of the most terrifying passages in the entire Bible. Jesus continues His sermon in Matthew 7:21-23 by warning his disciples that there will be many who go through life, claiming to be Christian, thinking they are Christian, but do not know the Lord. Prepare for Sunday by prayerfully reading this passage. According to Jesus, where does assurance that you know the Lord come from? What are the people whom the Lord denies eternal life to at the end of the age relying on for salvation in this passage? Join me in prayer this Sunday that the Kingdom of God will come. Pray that the Lord might open the hearts of anyone here who is deceived concerning their relationship with Christ. Sunday’s Sermon In response to Sunday’s message, take time to think about these truths and the response questions.

For Kids: Ezekiel Prophesied to the Exiles Ezekiel 10

Big Picture Question for Kids: How did God show He was unhappy with Israel?

Big Picture Answer for Kids: God’s presence left the temple.

Christ Connection: God left the temple because He was unhappy with His people’s sin. Sin separates people from God. Jesus came to earth to fix our relationship with God by taking the punishment of our sin for us. Because of Jesus, we can turn from our sin, trust in Him, and then enjoy God’s presence forever.

Key Passage: Ezekiel 37:27

For Teenagers: The Big Debates: The Sacredness of Human Life Lesson Text: Jeremiah 1:5; Genesis 9:5-6; Acts 22:1-5; Romans 8:1

Sunday, February 9 | “Two Trees: Exposing False Prophets” Truth: False prophets are always present. They can be found in the church, on television, in books, and on the radio. They are subtly deceptive. They twist the truth, speak half-truths, and claim to be Christian. They are extremely dangerous. Response: Every single Christian must be vigilant. The ability to spot a false prophet is not something only the pastors should be able to do. Are you constantly testing what you hear, read, and see against the Bible? Don’t just assume every book in the Christian section or every preacher on the Christian network is preaching the Christian message. The first command Jesus gives in this passage is to “beware.” Are you aware they are out there? Be vigilant! Truth: You can test preachers/teachers of God’s word by the Gospel they preach. The Gospel Jesus proclaimed included the fact that the wages of sin would result in eternal condemnation unless one is reconciled to God. His Gospel included a narrow gate; Christianity is exclusive. You only get to the Father through the Son, and you cannot bring all your sin with you. Repentance is required. The Gospel according to Jesus is hard. Following Christ does not guarantee an easy and prosperous life. In fact, Jesus tells His disciples to expect persecution, suffering, and to count the cost. Truth: You can test preachers/teachers of God’s word by the fruit they bear. It may be hard to test the personal fruit of ministry leaders if you’re not around them a lot. However, you can examine the fruit of their ministry. Are they producing mature believers, sending missionaries, and leading people to surrender their lives to Christ? Or are they producing people who are consumed with the things of this world and themselves? Response: Are you testing the message of the people you are listening to and reading? Do they proclaim the narrow and hard way? Be discerning of those you are learning from. Don’t merely rely on the pastors to test the books you read and sermons you hear. God has given you His word and Spirit. You must be discerning. Response: Do you believe the true Gospel? Have you been deceived by a deceptive message? Have you actually surrendered to the Lordship of Christ, and are you willing to walk the hard way? If not, talk to somebody about this immediately. Repent and enter the narrow gate today! Response: Are you proclaiming the true Gospel? This is an offensive and hard message to speak, but as ministers of reconciliation, we must speak. Speak with love and humility but speak the truth. Do not water the Christian message down to make it more palpable. Make sure you understand the true Gospel and then commit to proclaiming it consistently and accurately.
