We found cousins Alan & Max

Alan is the cousin of the Neil Armstrong family. He is sociable and he comes from Virginia. This guy is interested in Rwandan music and it is for that reason that he performed a Rwandan song called Yantumye by King James.

This performance made him known in the entire Village.

Cousin Max is known as the best music producer in ASYV and sometimes he gives us freestyles in Hip-Hop. This guy is known as YegoB.com because he likes to say it when we are in Village Time.

He also has his own clothing style and haircut, which is different from others.

We found Blaise from Steve Jobs

Blaise has incredible talents like playing piano and guitar, but he has an exceptionally good voice. His talent surprises a huge number of Enrichment Year students. Other grades are surprised as well, but he is already well known at the Village. This guy is known as an R&B singer, but he has also made a song called Imbohe Zubutaya, where he performs a hip-hop verse very well.

We found Tuyiringiro Emmanuel

Emmanuel is from the Neil Armstrong Family. He is known in the Village because of his funny dance moves and because he really likes to dance so much. When he is dancing, Emmanuel is not shy at all. He even dances on the stage during Village Time when he is not supposed to be!

This guy was also shown in a TV show, dancing to a song called Nyabarongo. It was so

amazing that everyone wanted to know him deeply.

We found Etie’ne

This guy is also so funny. He makes funny actions, like for example during the Boom he dances as if he was a girl. He is also known for his T.V. show called Iris show. That T.V. show has many fans, and many members. Other funny things that he does is joking and the way he looks with his big t-shirts and big glasses, and he has made a hip hop song which was longer than six minutes.

Agriculture Is Source of Development for ASYV

1

Written by: Jeanne d’Arc

Agriculture is an activity that helps people satisfy their needs, as well as the important wants in the world. Agriculture is composed of livestock farming and growing crops. Livestock farming is an activity in which people give care to domestic animals. This article will briefly discuss information about domestic animals that we have in our farm, like cows, rabbits, and hens.

There are twelve cows at the farm, but only three cows give

2

milk. Every day they give 50 litters of milk, 25 litters in the morning and usually only 20 litters at night. They give us very little milk when they don’t have enough grass to eat. But when they satisfy their food needs, they can give us 50 litters.

Furthermore, there are 8 rabbits in the farm. Every rabbit has its own place to live in order to have independence. Their food includes cabbage, grass, and they even drink milk! Lastly are the hens. When you go in the hen’s houses, you will see so many of

3

them. There are two houses with 850 hens in each house, so there are 1,700 hens in total. They eat many different kinds of food, including maize.

In conclusion, agriculture is a special activity that can develop our country. It is a source of income, it is a source of employment, it is a source of manure, and it is a source of all things that help people to satisfy their needs. I encourage everyone to develop agriculture to reach their many different goals.

Local and Organic Vegetables Within ASYV

Written by: Ufitamahoro Rebecca

The farm has many different crops, like maize, beans, vegetables, and fruits. We will see how they grow and their importance.

First of all, maize is grown in January and harvested in July. In other seasons, they are grown in October and harvested in December. Often they dry this

maize to make flour. From the maize, the kitchen staff also makes porridge. Maize is a great source of energy.

Secondly, beans and vegetables are crops that are harvested every three months. They are important and help build our bodies and reduce diseases, such as blindness. They also give us protein and are a good source of energy.

Thirdly, fruits are one of the most

important meals because it provides oxygen to our blood.

As we can see, growing these crops help the Village raise money and eat well. It gives the Village financial discipline and can fund other projects.

SPORTS IN AGAHOZO-SHALOM

ASYV Football Team Wins 2:1

Written by: Kabera Hussein

In Agahozo-Shalom Youth Village there are many games: basketball, volleyball, and football. They each have some strengths and some weaknesses. However there is much more respect in the football fans.

I went to the coach of ASYV football team to ask questions about where they get their strength. The coach said that practice is going very well, but there are some problems on the team with timing.

Volleyball Continues to Have Great Success Written by: Ngaboriziza Libens

The volleyball team played on February 28th, 2015 and both teams won! The girls and the boys won two sets. I met with TIYISENGE Evariste, a star player from ASYV boy’s volleyball team. He was born in 1997, which means that he is 18 years old. He told me the secret to his success, which is to practice enough, be on time, have disciple and follow the coach’s orders, and understand the meaning of his fans.

Evariste is motivated and wants to be the best in his country and the entire world. He wants to help students practice Volleyball and join the ASYV team. He has played Volleyball more than others because he believes it is better than any other game. He has been a member of the volleyball team since he first arrived at the Village.

His vision will not stop when he finishes his studies, and he will continue playing Volleyball. Nothing can stop him from playing volleyball. Evariste jokes that he would only stop playing if he were dying or if he has a difficult disease. He cannot stop because he knows he has talent and he trusts in himself. The volleyball player Marshall, believed to be the best in Rwanda, is Evariste’s role model.

There is limited time to do practice and to study. It requires a lot of dedication and commitment.

During the last game, ASYV won 2:1. The football team has shown their strength by winning two matches in the last week. The following week they will have another match with Rwamagana City. In conclusion, ASYV football team must work hard in practice in order to win the next match!

Artist Spotlight in the Village

Defange Urges Students to Pursue their Passions Written by Masabo Bella Honorine

Talents are very useful in our daily lives. That is why we are going to learn more by interviewing one of the talented people in Agahozo-Shalom Youth Village – Uwena Defange. Defange says that for someone to improve their talents, they have to be confident in himself or herself.

“Sometimes people can feel like using their talent, but they loose hope in themselves. Let me tell you that you are the only one to believe that you can make it. You are the one to motivate yourself. Others will come after, but you must start the journey. Step by step always makes a journey. If you really stay focused and work hard with determination you will reach your success”.

Defange grew up watching her big sister sing.

She really liked it, but was afraid to try. Finally she realized that it doesn’t require much, except

loving it and working hard for your goals. She began singing and finally realized that she had made it! Now she continues giving advice to her fellow students, saying that they have to realize who they are and to know what they are striving for. Even those who think that they are not talented should work hard because one day they will discover how talented they really are.

“You are the only one to believe that you can make it. You are the one to motivate yourself. Others will come after, but you must start the journey”

Written by: Gaju Yvonne You can ask yourself, who is he? And why is he the extraordinary one? Montana Rossi is one of the best painters in ASYV after Iddy Basengo. In addition to that he was a student at ASYV from 2011 up to 2014. Now Rossi works in the art centre as a teacher of visual art.

that he loved art and he revealed that he had a talent when he was in Enrichment Year in 2011. It was very hard from the beginning, but from his hard work and passion in art, Rossi made it. I asked Rossi if there is someone else in his family who is an artist and Rossi said that his father is a singer and Rossi’s brother is a painter too. ..cntd pg. 7

The Incredible Painter

No one can deny that Rossi is the best painter because his paintings describe him. From the interview I did with Rossi, he tried to explain to the ASYV newspaper how he accomplishes all of that. From the beginning Rossi said that before he came here in ASYV he didn’t know that he had talent in painting and drawing. But all what Montana Rossi knew was

The Sunlight Times

He also told the ASYV newspaper that painting and drawing is not only a talent, but wisdom because you gain extensive knowledge in art. Apart from occupying his time and having fun creating art, Montana also gets personal profit from art. Montana makes portraits and sells them when he is on vacation or in his free time. One of his most expensive paintings cost 150 K and he also sold his painting in fundraising for ASYV. He has now sold two paintings that were 100 K each. In conclusion, in the dialogue I had with Montana Rossi, he encouraged everyone who has a passion or a talent of anything in art to develop it because art is wisdom, in addition to giving you economic profits. No Comment Show Makes Waves at ASYV Written by: Niyonzima Eric and Niyizompoza Pascal

His name is Drazzy E Banks and he is from the Nelson Mandela Family. He was born on July 8th, 1997.

“I am the founder of the No Comment Show! I got the idea of making the show on February 21, 2014. The reason I make this show is to make people hopeful and to be proud of who they are. I want to make them feel capable of making their dreams come true. This show will help me in my future by giving me the experience that I need to one day become a journalist. It will even make me happy to see how my show has changed many people’s thoughts.

No Comment has six members and we live like a family. I take them like my brothers and my sisters. I choose the name “No comment” Show because if someone is satisfied about something there is no need to comment. In other words you cannot comment when you don’t need anything to be fulfilled. In the No Comment Show nothing is missing.

What I can tell people who want to be like me, is that you must have self-confidence that you can do it, you must avoid bad ideas that can make you give up. All of the challenges that you are going to face must not discourage you because someone who has never made a mistake has never tried anything.”

Now she is at such a good level of singing that she can also teach others. She has recorded audio and music videos of her own songs. Dorcus told me, “if you love something you have to work for it in order to achieve”.
