Sunningdale Snippets 2017 Highlights Edition Somerset Day We celebrated Somerset Day in style. We enjoyed sampling the tastes of Somerset including cider, cheese, biscuits and apple juice. Residents and staff dressed up for the occasion as scarecrows to complete the theme. We played music by the Wurzels and spoke about what Somerset meant to us. We spoke about the main companies within Somerset, and of course everyone agreed Somerset Care was the best. The residents enjoyed sharing their memories about working life, from aircraft makers to strawberry pickers; everyone had a story to tell.

Somerset Day We celebrated Somerset Day in style.

Alzheimer’s Cupcake DayWe enjoyed supporting the Alzheimer’s Society’s Cupcake Day. Our staff made lots of cakes to help raise money for the Alzheimer’s Society and to raise awareness of dementia. We all enjoyed the yummy cakes, tea and coffee, and enjoyed chatting to families and friends of our residents.

Lofty came to visitLofty the therapy horse came to visit us. The residents had been looking forward to this visit for a long time and he didn’t disappoint. Lofty was a massive hit with everyone and enjoyed receiving lots of attention. He made sure that he visited the whole home and popped in to see a few residents in their rooms. Lofty was so well behaved and we can’t wait to have him visit us again.

Summer FeteWe had a great day at our Summer Fete and were blessed with the weather as the sun shone down on our garden. We had lots of visitors and were delighted to welcome lots of children who really enjoyed the face painting. The ice cream van made a visit and brought lots of joy and fond memories of past trips to the seaside. The stalls were very popular, with one of our residents using the opportunity to buy a few new scarves and a handbag. Our fete took place on the same day as Yeovilton Air day, we had a fantastic view of the Red Arrows, who didn’t disappoint. We raised lots of money for our residents’ amenities fund, which helps to fund trips and entertainment for our residents.

Trip to West Bay We enjoyed a trip to the seaside and visited West Bay. It was lovely and sunny, but quite windy by the seafront. The residents enjoyed a delicious lunch at the Windy Corner Café and stopped off for a ice cream after.

One of our residents told us “a trip to the beach isn’t worth doing without a lovely ice cream to finih the day”, which made us all chuckle. Oh the minibus journey home we had a good sing-along to ‘Oh I do like to be beside the seaside’ and arrived back home feeling very sleepy.

Mary’s 40th surprise party Mary has been a volunteer here at Sunningdale Lodge for 19 years. Mary turns up every week and does so much to help here, so we thought we would give her a 40th birthday to remember

Mary’s favourite band are Take That, so we arranged for a tribute band to come in and perform at the party. Mary really enjoyed her day and we enjoyed being a part of her special celebrations.
