Welcome to the August edition of Sunshine Magazine.

The summer is in full swing in our area , the playas are starting to heat up and so is our magazine and all people enjoy the Sunshine.The roads are busy, you can,t find a parking space anywhere and there,is the constant smell of suncream in the air. In the evenings its more better for a nice walk on the paseos, a cool drink in a bar and a nice meal in one of the many restaurants in the area. In the « Where to go » pages you can find a lot of bars and restaurants with their own speciality. Have a look and try them.In this edition we write about what to do when you have an accident with your car, who do you have to call and who can help you. Have a look at the « Driving in Spain » pages. For all the ladys we have some good tips how to feel and look good. You find this information in the special about Beauty and Fashion. Also we write about travelling. CityTrips, cruises and a lot of more journeys. You can visit the travel-agencys and ask what they can offer you. Quality flags on La Reya, Castellar, Rihuete and NaresLast week, the two flags, given by the Environmental and Users Education Association to the Nares and La Reya local beaches last month of May, were finally placed.In addition to this, the two flags classified with the distinction of Quality Q, given by the Spanish Tourist Quality Institute, were also hoisted on both El Castellar and Rihuete beaches. The quality Q gives prestige, difference, reliability and severity to the beaches as well as promotion from the Tourism State Secretary and Autonomous Communities. The beaches with the Quality Q have passed some strict audits which assure their quality, security and professionalism. The event had the presence of the Mayor, Ginés García Campillo, the Councilwoman of Tourism, María Celeste Soria, the Council of Urban Service Management, Juan Miguel Muñoz, the Council of Civil Protection and Public Security, Miguel Mª García, and the Council of Trade and Consumption, Isidro Coy.Campillo stressed that “we will keep on working to get new flags for our beaches”.The Council woman of Tourism, María Celeste Soria, explained that “we will look into which beach has more possibilities to get this award and we will work to get it”.After hoisting the flags, the local politicians went to a Protección Civil post to find out about the work done by the lifeguards in the coast.

Salaries of the new Government Team approved at PlenumOn the last Tuesday, 28th, the Town Council held their first local Plenum Session in this legislature. During it, the salaries of the local Council Members were approved as well as the trust posts in this new legislature.According to the accounts presented by the Mayor, Ginés Campillo, the Town Council will save 1,432,000 euros, regarding the previous legislature. The first Councilman of the opposition, Francisco Blaya, criticised the wages saying that “it has not taken much time for the new government team to show that they will not fulfil what they promised during the electoral campaign based on deception”. Blaya was talking about the 50 per cent reduction in Mayor and Council Members’ salaries, which has not been obeyed, “that is what the present quadripartite and non-natural government team of Mazarrón is doing”, he pointed out.

Ginés Campillo stated that “nobody in the government team has said that thing and if the powers transference had been normal, they would have taken that into account”.According to the new government team, the figures on the last legislature were 2,800,000 euros, while the salaries of the new one will be 1,700,000, so 1,000,000 euros will be saved in the next four years.Regarding the number and regime of the temporary staff, three trust posts were agreed. One Press Chief, one Councils Coordination Advisor and one Day Centre Manager. Each of them will be paid 21,000 euros gross annual in 14 payslips of 1,500 euros.

The performance was developed in the operation called «Modesto» which has ended up with the arrest of two people.

In this operation, more than twenty agents and a drug-detector dog intervened around the regular bars and leisure areas in Mazarrón. Sources of the operative pointed out that the reasons of this performance were encouraged by the important activity detected in some premises of Mazarrón which were visited by people with the clear intention of getting some drug.The Guardia Civil work gave as a result the arrest of two people identified as F.J.M.R. (28) and G.C.V. (43), both with Spanish nationality, as the alleged authors against public health.It seems to be that the arrested people were dealing with the drug retail sale so the registration and inspection of some premises were ordered where several amounts of drugs for their sale and delivery were found. Police operation has also allowed seize several items relating to drug traffic.

“El Caena” carried the Virgin in her maritime processionPuerto de Mazarrón and fishermen held the celebration of Virgen del Carmen holiday. On the last Saturday, at six in the evening, the traditional mass took place at the port fish market where tens people gathered. The celebration this year had


the performance of the Coro Rociero de Mazarrón.Once the mass got over, and among cheers, the image of the Virgen del Carmen, fishermen patron saint, boarded on El Caena to cross the Mazarrón Bay towards Bolnuevo. More than twenty ships went along with “The Star of the Seas” during the maritime procession. Once there, there was an emotive tribute to the fishermen dead in this last year. Devotes threw flowers to the sea in remembrance of their relatives, at the same time, they prayed for them and for the nuns dead in the accident in Mozambique. Back to the port, the cofradía “Virgen de las Penas” was waiting for the image of the Virgen to take her to the San José Church in Puerto de Mazarrón. Before getting the church, the Virgen del Carmen received a warm tribute outside the Cofradía de Pescadores place. Several hundreds people went along with the fishermen patron saint in all the celebration events.Among the assistants, there were the new Mayor of Mazarrón, Ginés Campillo, the PP Regional Minister, Alicia Jiménez, the first Deputy Mayor, Francisco García, and the opposition chief, Francisco Blaya, among other authorities and members of the local government.
