Editor’s NoteDear Southern Sun timeshare owner,

Happy days! Your copy of SunSwop Resort Directory 2011 is now in your possession, and it’s time for you to kick back and mull and muse over the sparkling menu of destinations on offer. Where will you be going this year? Your home resort – or elsewhere? Somewhere within the Southern Sun family of resorts, or to one of our prestigious external partners?

If you’re keen to try out a fresh destination, you definitely need to know that this year we’ve added six new resorts to our portfolio (and removed a few of the less popular choices from previous years). In the Western Cape we have Avalon Springs, Stone-hill River Lodge, Ocean Shores and Piekenierskloof Mountain Lodge. In Mpumalanga we have Dunkeld Country Estate, and in North West Province we’re joined by Seasons Eco Golf Estate.

Remember that we offer special Bonus Week, so if you need a quick getaway at fairly short notice and don’t necessarily want to go away for a full week (or use up your deposited timeshare), then Bonus Weeks are the way to go.

Note that if you’re new to SunSwop, or even an old hand who needs a refresher course, our section on Frequently Asked Questions walks you through key how-to information about making deposits and arranging exchanges.

The Editors.

up in wondering about the meaning of life and

what our role in it should be that we lose sight

of the straightforward solution staring us in the

face: stop asking the question and start living

the answer.

That was a saying my grandfather repeated

frequently in his life, and I took it to heart. But

my father also made a long-lasting impression

on me with something he said, even though he

said it only once.

At Southern Sun we embrace change and inno-

vation, and our management philosophy is be-

ing retooled for the twenty-first century. We’re

implementing Management 2.0 and interactive

leadership styles … much of which reminds me of

the theories I learned at university in the 1970s.

So-called MBWA management was all the rage

then – Management By Walking Around.

I was so taken by the idea that I couldn’t wait

to visit my father and tell him about it. Dad,

I said, wait till you hear this: it’s brand-new

and it’s going to stop everything. He heard me

out, then drew on his pipe and observed, “You

know, Deon, that reminds me of something

the farmers used to say. Die voetspoere van die

boer is die beste bemesting vir die land. (The

farmer’s footsteps are the best nourishment

for the land.)”

Terminologies might change, bigger and brighter

ideas might emerge, but tried and trusted core

values stay the same – and I’m immensely

proud of how well my resort general managers

put them into practice. When it comes to being

visible and available to their staff and their

guests, they are simply unbeatable.

This resort directory is your map book to future

adventures, and it’s your guide to wellness. Use

it wisely.

MESSAGE FROM DEON VILJOEN

As your managing agent, it’s my pleasure to

welcome you to the SunSwop Resort Directory

for 2011. A new year is not simply another year

added on to the one before it; 2011 is not just

2010 + 1. The New Year overwrites the old

one. It discards it and marks a clean start – the

beginning of fresh, bold adventures. The pages

that follow are your map book for charting out

those adventures.

Southern Sun Lifestyle Resorts: celebrating your well-being

Here you’ll find a catalogue of premier travel

destinations into which you can exchange your

Southern Sun timeshare. You’ll find content to

feed both the mind and heart – need-to-know

info about unit sizes, on-site facilities and so on,

as well as stuff aplenty to inspire you, get you

dreaming, fire up your imagination, and help

you turn your glorious wishes into an even more

glorious reality.

This resort directory is your map book for the

year ahead; above all, think of it as your guide to

wellness. Why? Because Southern Sun is a key

partner in your well-being.

We live in an era of accelerating change, and

when these changes occur, we adapt to them,

bounce back, and embrace them in ways that

can work for us. But you can’t escape a central

truth: the more things change, the more they

stay the same. There’s a saying that timeshare

is good value for good values. Values that

stress the importance of taking a break and

reflecting on where your life is going; values

that give uppermost priority to family, loved

ones and relationships. No matter how the

world changes, these things will always remain

important – and always guide our lives.

I’ll never forget something my late grandfather

was fond of saying. “He who knows the way and

does not follow it … will be hit very hard!” It goes

back to instinct, your instinct of knowing what

is right: knowing that you urgently need time-

out, knowing that you should be spending qual-

ity time on your family and relationships. The

moment we know is the moment we take on

responsibility for the situation; the moment we

have the responsibility is the moment we need

to act and bring about change for the better.

But all too often we delay important actions

and put our lives on hold. We get so caught

MESSAGE FROM PETER PIENAAR

Early in 2011, SunSwop will be going digital

when we launch our online reservation

system for your greater convenience.

So there’s been development, consolidation

and expansion. But, as our Operations Director

Deon Viljoen points out, the more things

change, the more they stay the same … and in

the case of SunSwop, this is literally true.

We are happy to announce that our exchange

fees have not increased for the second year in

a row. They remain what they were when we

launched in 2009 (i.e. R395 internal, R699 ex-

ternal and R1460 international).

Finally, let me say that we’re always on the

lookout for new and exciting resorts to en-

hance your vacation lifestyle. We have now

added the following destinations into our

portfolio of resorts into which you are able to

exchange: Stonehill River Lodge, Seasons Eco

Estate, Dunkeld Country Estate, Piekenier-

skloof Mountain Lodge, Avalon Springs and

Ocean Shores.

Time has flown by in an eyeblink, and it’s hard

to believe that – quite wonderfully – SunSwop

is now entering its third year of active

operation. Along with the support of our global

exchange partner Interval International, we

launched at short notice in February 2009. It

was a sweltering summer in South Africa, but

our London-based call centre happened to be

completely snowbound at the time, meaning

that no one could get inside the offices to take

the calls that were already streaming in on the

day we opened for business.

Since then we have vaulted from strength to

strength, and today SunSwop is a credible and

reliable vacation-exchange provider that offers

a range of sterling services to our members. All

along our mission has been firmly to establish

ourselves as a top-quality, independent or-

ganisation that is exclusively available for the

Go soaring with SunSwopbenefit of timeshare owners at Southern Sun

Lifestyle Resorts – and our transaction statis-

tics show that we are well on track in catering

to the needs of South Africa’s blue-chip time-

share community.

More and more people are depositing their

Southern Sun timeshare with us for safekeeping

until later use. Our deposits as at December

2010 showed an increase of 28% on those for

2009. But even more encouraging has been the

growth in the number of holiday exchanges

we’ve facilitated – simply put, we’re now doing

65% more exchanges than in our first year of

trade. Most tellingly of all, the majority of our

exchanges (almost 90%) are done back into

Southern Sun Lifestyle Resorts, either because

owners are exchanging from one of our resorts

into another or because they are going back to

their home resorts at a time of the year that’s

more convenient for them.

This underscores just how desirable and

highly regarded our timeshare properties are.

It also re-emphasises the wisdom of setting

up SunSwop in the first place: among other

things, we wanted to make it easy for our

owners to be able to exchange back into their

own family of resorts.

What’s more, in these two years of operation

we’ve expanded our range of services and

products to include:

• sunswop Choices, a multifaceted offering

that, in particular, allows timeshare owners to

exchange into Southern Sun’s suite of hotels

across the country

• Bonus Weeks – you don’t use up your

deposited timeshare with these … you pay

a fee for the getaway break you want and

that’s that

• sunswop travel, a one-stop port of call for

arranging anything from flights to car hire, and

from island packages to cruises

• Premium Holiday Cover for safeguarding

your vacation in the event of misfortune

Message From Peter Pienaar, General Manager: sunswop

TRADING POINTS GuIDE

trAdiNG POiNts Guide

To use your trading points you need to know the value of the week that you own. To find this, you would need to go to the relevant page in this directory which reflects the calendar and points value for the geographical region in which your resort is located. It is important that you know the week number and the size of the unit which you own.

If, for example, you own a week at Umhlanga Sands, you would refer to the page which shows the values for the kZN North Coast region.

Now refer to the calendar which shows the week numbers to determine the colour of the week owned for the particular year in which you wish to deposit your week, e.g. week 30 = Red for 2009.

Take a look at the points table which shows your resort and look specifically for the full week value of a red week in the unit size which you own, e.g. if you own a 2 bedroom unit, the value of the week would be 5875 points.

To determine the value of the week into which you wish to exchange, you would use the same method, e.g.:• select the region in which the resort is situated• select the resort into which you wish to exchange• check the colour of the week into which you wish to exchange by using the regional calendar• select the unit size required E.g. if you wished to exchange into a 0/02 unit in week 20 (white week) at Umhlanga Sands, the value required for this exchange would be 3250 points.

PLeAse NOte: The calendars and trading points provided throughout this directory were correct at the time of printing and subject to change without notice.

** PLeAse NOte that some units cannot accommodate six adults. The unit might have sleeper couches that can only fit children 12 years and younger. kindly confirm this with your call centre agent. The trading points received for depositing your week with SunSwop are valid for the current year, plus another year.
