The College is pleased to place this Supplementary Report before the Peer Team of the
National Assessment and Accreditation Council (NAAC). The report includes the details of
developments and programmes conducted in the Institution after the submission of the Self
Study Report in January 2016.
With an eye on sustaining quality and strengthening efficiency in the various functional areas
of the Institution, certain organisational changes were brought about since January 2016.
Administration:
1) After Dr. A. A Rashid retired on 31st March 2016. Dr. Vijaya Krishna has been
appointed as the In-charge Principal with effect from 1st April 2016.
2) Dr. Vasudev Iyer has been appointed as the In-charge Vice-Principal of the Self-
Financing Section of the Degree College with effect from 1st April 2016.
3) Ms. Dhanashree Joshi has been appointed as the Co-ordinator for the Aided section of
Degree College with effect from 1st June 2016.
4) Mr. V. Ramakrishnan and Dr. S. S. Pendse were entrusted with the responsibility of
overseeing the maintenance of the College facilities and infrastructure.

PART I: (A) INSTITUTIONAL DATA:
ADMISSIONS:
In the Academic Year 2016-2017 the University has approved an additional intake of 36
students for the B.Com Programme and 12 students in the Self Financing Programmes
offered at the Undergraduate level. Six additional seats were sanctioned for each of the Post
Graduate Programmes. This has resulted in enhanced student intake in the current academic
year.
The total student strength in the academic year 2016-17 is 2617.
The inclusive practices adopted by the College and strict adherence to the rules framed by
the Government of Maharashtra and the University of Mumbai are reflected in the profile
of students admitted in the A.Y.2015-16. Almost 60% of the students enrolled are females.

CRITERION 1: CURRICULAR ASPECTS:
1. INDUSTRIAL VISITS:
For making the curriculum learner centric, Industrial Visits were organized for the learners in
the later half of the A.Y.2015-16:
Learners of Self-financing programmes visited Alok Industries Ltd, a textile company
and KRYFS Power Components Ltd., Silvassa to study production management and
the production process. They also submitted a report based on their learnings.
Learners of Third Year Bachelor of Management Studies programme visited the
Oberoi Mall, for practical understanding of the nuances of Retail Marketing.
Learners of Travel and Tourism Course of the Aided Programme went on a three day
study tour to Aurangabad to review the tourist facilities available in Aurangabad, a
town with great historical significance and to study the scope for improvement in the
facilities available.
More such industrial visits will be conducted in the later half of the academic year
2016 – 2017.
2. INTERACTION WITH AND SUPPORT FROM INDUSTRY:
Industry supports the College by providing internship opportunities to the learners. E.g.
during the A.Y. 2015 – 2016, in addition to the internship opportunities mentioned in the
SSR:
11 learners completed internship with ‘Aptech Assessment and Testing Solution’.
29 learners were selected for work from home Project Internship with ‘Datamatics
Financial Services’
6 learners were selected as interns by ‘HDFC’
1 learner was selected as intern by ‘Cube Edu Gain Pvt Ltd’
1 learner was selected as intern by ‘Tag Vinnati’.
The College is in talks with reputed organisations like J P Morgan for internship
opportunities.
3. PROVISIONS TO IMPROVE EMPLOYABILITY OF STUDENTS:
The GFMP programme has been well received by the learners and 19 learners have enrolled
for the third batch of the programme which commenced in April 2016 while 23 learners
enrolled for the 4th
batch which commenced in September 2016.

4. ACADEMIC AUDIT
The College had submitted the report for Academic Audit to University of Mumbai in the
month of May, 2016. The University of Mumbai constituted Peer Team for conduct of the
Academic Audit, visited the college on September 1st, 2016. The Peer Team members were:

The members expressed satisfaction over the functioning of the College and also shared
valuable suggestions for quality enhancement. The members also suggested that on the basis
of good academic achievements, the College may submit a proposal for Autonomy.

2. SENSITIZATION OF STUDENTS ABOUT VARIOUS SOCIAL
ISSUES: Other than just organising talks / workshops for sensitizing faculty, staff and students, the
College has been actively organizing various activities wherein the learners and the faculty
are sensitized towards various sections of the society may it be differently abled,

6. PEDAGOGY:
The faculty members have been using several innovative techniques to foster better
understanding of the subject matter and for better outcomes. Apart from the instances (of
formative approaches which have had a positive impact on the system) mention in the SSR, a

CRITERION 3: RESEARCH, CONSULTANCY AND EXTENSION:
1. RESEARCH:
In the last five years, two faculty members were awarded the Ph.D. degree. The College
comprises relatively young faculty members who have been encouraged to pursue research.
As a result, 9 members have registered for Ph.D. Three minor research projects were
successfully undertaken in the last five years. One senior faculty member has been appointed
as member of Academic Council of the Maritime History Society (Indian Navy Western
Naval Command).
Apart from this, the faculty members also encourage students to undertake research. E.g. the
Learners of T.Y.B.Com were encouraged to apply the 3 P’s of Marketing to actually launch
an innovative and socially beneficial product.
2. RESOURCE MOBILISATION FOR RESEARCH:
The College Management earmarks a certain amount for staff development programme in
the budget, provides library resources and infrastructure to support research. For details

4. CONSULTANCY:
The College has setup the Entrepreneurship Development Cell (EDC). This Cell plans to
provide consultancy services to the Self Help Groups under Astitva Foundation. The women
belonging to the Self Help Groups are small entrepreneurs with extremely limited knowledge
of accounts. So the faculty and students of EDC will provide consultancy services without
charging any fees, as an initiative under Institutional Social Responsibility.
5. EXTENSION ACTIVITIES AND INSTITUTIONAL SOCIAL
RESPONSIBILITY:
For extension and outreach programmes, the faculty in-charge of the committees plan
activities and raise funds through sponsorships, collection and sale of old news papers,
voluntary donations etc. and organizes the activities accordingly.
Rs. 1,21,308/- was the amount spent on major extension and outreach programmes in the
A.Y. 2015-16 and in the A.Y. 2016-17 Rs. 9,983/- has been spent on extension activities as of

June, 2016: HEPSN
HEPSN Orientation Program
On 29th
June, 2016 i.e. Wednesday, an orientation program was organized to make students
aware about the purpose of setting up the HEPSN Cell. About 45 students attended the
program. The program started with a speech which was given by Vijendra Lohar,
T.Y.B.Com., student & an active member of HEPSN. He also shared his personal experience
with the students. One of the quotes he made was “Good deeds done by you returns and helps
you in the life”.
He also explained that the Cell helps the differently abled persons in their higher studies,
organizes entertainment programs for Cheshire home residents, and supports the Home in
their activities like organizing rallies, celebrating World Disability Day and many other
activities. This Cell also welcomes the Cheshire Home residents for displaying their articles
for sale in college premises.
This was followed by a speech by Ms. Jyoti, Ex-Convener of HEPSN Cell, who motivated
the students to join the noble cause. At the end Ms. Padmaja, the present Convener of the
HEPSN Cell requested to students to participate in the activities held in the year.

July, 2016: CWDC
Workshop on Notepad making out of Waste.
Waste, and how we choose to handle it, affects our world's environment. The environment is
everything around us including the air, water, land, plants, and man-made things. A health
environment is essential for our health and happiness and for sustaining economic progress.
Minimization of waste, recycling and reusing it is one step towards preserving the
environment. With this objective in mind, the students of Tolani College of Commerce
collected unused diaries and partially used diaries and converted it into 242 beautiful
notepads. Ms. Hema Mehta took the initiative of guiding the students to make the beautiful
notepads.

July, 2016: CWDC
Books and Stationery Distribution Drive
CWDC organized Distribution of Books, Stationery and breakfast to children of Telugu
Vaidu Community of Sanjay Nagar – the adopted slum area near the College. 96 students
benefitted of this programme. The children were given bags, note books, long books,
stationery, colour pencils, tiffin box and water bottle. The articles were donated by the
students and the staff of Tolani College of Commerce. The alumni too, contributed for this
noble clause. The collection drive and distribution was done by the Degree College students
under the guidance of Ms. Hema Mehta.

July, 2016- HEPSN
Cleaning of Cheshire Home
On Sunday, 10th
July, 2016, the students of Tolani College of Commerce (HEPSN Cell) went
for cleaning the premises of Cheshire Home situated in Sher-e- Punjab. HEPSN is the Cell
for Higher Education for Persons with Special Needs. This Cell helps the persons, who are
differently abled, in their higher studies. This Cell also takes the initiative of cleaning the
premises of Cheshire Home, organizing entertainment programs, supporting in their
activities, etc.

HEPSN members went on Sunday at 02:00 pm to Cheshire Home. Members were 20 students
of S.Y.B.Com and 3 students of T.Y.B.Com. All the instructions were given to the students
about how to proceed and for smooth conduct of the activity; students were divided into 4
groups, each of 5. They cleaned the gardens by picking small unwanted branches and dead
leaves. The roads, pathways, passages were also cleaned at the same time. Students were
provided gloves for the safety. They also cleaned the ground cum parking space of the
Cheshire Home. The cleaning work was over by 04:30 pm.
The activity was a great success due to active support by the College management and
Cheshire Home authorities and also the co-operation of the students.

Educational help to the students with special needs
One of the main activities undertaken by the HEPSN Cell is to help the students with special
needs in their higher education studies. Rahul Pandey (S.Y.B.Com / D) and Saini Sukhbir
Singh (S.Y.B.Com / D), active members of HEPSN cell, took a step and started teaching a
student Alkarim Damani (S.Y.B.Com / A).
Alkarim suffers from speech and hearing impairment. He needed help to clear his Business
Communication Sem. II ATKT exam. So Rahul & Sukhbir took lectures as per the following

Talk on Women Rights by eminent Advocate, Mr. Anand Bhatia
CWDC of Tolani College of Commerce organized a talk on Women’s Rights by eminent
lawyer, Advocate Anand Bhatia. The talk aimed to promote women human rights and to
support the active participation of women in the establishment and maintenance of respectful
democratic order. The students were sensitized about the following aspects: Need for strict
adherence to women’s rights, stopping violence against women and girls and building on the
capacity of female leaders in the conflict area. Advocate Anand Bhatia ignited a positive
spark among the students through his impressive speech which was interspersed with real life
examples.

July, 2016: ROTRACT CLUB
Visit to Old Age Home
On the occasion of Parents Day (24th of July), Rotaract Club of Tolani College of Commerce
visited the Home for Aged. It is located at Andheri (East).The members of Rotaract Club
interacted with the Senior Citizens, sang songs and spent quality time with them. There were
40 members in the Home for aged, and all of them belonged to the age group above 70 years.

31st July, 2016: ROTRACT CLUB
Tree Plantation Drive
The students of Rotaract Club of Tolani College of Commerce conducted a tree plantation
drive wherein saplings were planted in the vicinity of the college viz. Sher-E-Punjab, Poonam
Nagar. Saplings were also planted at Sahar and Powai. On the last Sunday of the month of
July (30th July, 2016); the Rotaractors of Rotaract Club of Tolani College of Commerce
organized a Tree Plantation drive. Saplings of plant Ashoka, Neem and Peepal were collected
a day prior to conduct the drive. In addition to this, permissions were sought from caretakers
of several other gardens for plantation of trees there. Areas around the College, Sahar and
Powai were chosen to plant trees

Display and Sale of Articles by Cheshire Home
On 5th and 6th August 2016 the HEPSN Cell (Higher Education for Persons with Special
Needs) of Tolani College of Commerce called upon the residents of Cheshire Home for
display and sale of articles prepared by them. A stall was put up on the first floor foyer from
9:00 am – 4:00 pm displaying articles like rakhis, friendship bands, hand bags, candles and
other handicrafts. There was a great response on the part of teachers and students who not
only visited the stall but also purchased and admired the creativity. The following students of
S.Y.B.Com played a crucial role by assisting the Cheshire home residents in sale.

Friendship Day Celebration at Cheshire Home
HEPSN has been actively involved in various social service activities. The volunteers
decided to celebrate friendship day with the inmates of Cheshire Home. So on 7th August,
2016, all the heads along with the some of the members of HEPSN visited the Cheshire
Home.
They all celebrated by talking to the inmates, tying friendship bands and by playing games.
The efforts of the students were appreciated by the staff and the inmates.

Visit to Clergy Home
The students of Rotaract Club of Tolani College of Commerce visited a Clergy Home at
Bandra West on the occasion of Vianney Sunday. The students visited the priests and
interacted with them on this auspicious occasion.
13th August, 2016: ROTRACT CLUB
Rotaract Installation Ceremony
The members of the Rotaract Club of Tolani College of Commerce organized their
Installation Ceremony to mark the start of a New Rotaract Year. It is an event wherein the
post bearers are introduced and promise of delivering service and reviving the charter takes
place. All the past Presidents also attended the function. This was followed by a presentation
of achievements of the Rotaract Club in the last five years.

August, 2016: CWDC
Grocery Distribution to four families of Sanjay Nagar Telugu Vaidu Community
CWDC organised distribution of food provisions among women affected with HIV (2
families), a girl student having health issues (1 family) and a Child with partial visual
disability, belonging to Telugu Vaidu community of Sanjay Nagar, a nearby slum area
adopted by the College. The collection and distribution of provisions was carried out by the
degree college students. The grocery packets which were distributed consisted of 5kgs. of
rice, 5kgs. of wheat flour, a kilo each of chana dal, toor dal, sugar and salt, a litre of oil and a
packet of tea powder.
18th August, 2016: ROTRACT CLUB
Project Samman and Project Raksha.
On the auspicious occasion of Raksha Bandhan, the students of Rotaract Club of Tolani
College of Commerce undertook their flagship initiative: Project Samman and Project
Raksha. The girl students tied rakhis to the ever vigilant police force in Mumbai as a token of
respect and appreciation of their hardwork. The boys received rakhis with gratitude from
small girls at Jaicoach, which is a slum area. Almost 30 destitute girls participated in this and
received gifts from the Club members.

Talk on Stress Management by Dr. Delica D’Sa, Clinical Counsellor, Holy Spirit
Hospital
CWDC organised a talk on Stress Management by Dr. Delica D’Sa, Clinical Counsellor at
the Holy Spirit Hospital. Dr. Delica is a Licensed Professional Counsellor (Illinois, USA).
She enlightened a group of 180 learners of F.Y.B.Com. about stress, its causes, symptoms,
how to contain panic and measures to overcome stress.

September, 2016: ROTRACT CLUB
Awareness about Eco-Friendly Ganesh Idols
The students of Rotaract Club of Tolani College of Commerce took the initiative using the
digital medium to disseminate information about Eco-Friendly Ganesh Idol Vendors. Social
media like Facebook were used for promoting the same. The name, address and picture of the
vendors were displayed.
This attempt of the Club to spread awareness about the need to preserve the environment, was
a great success as a lot of people actually purchased eco-friendly idols from these vendors.

September, 2016: ROTRACT CLUB
Crowd-Control Drive during Ganesh Visarjan
The students of Rotaract Club of Tolani College of Commerce organized a crowd control
drive.
The students zeroed on Powai lake, where hundreds of Ganesh idols are immersed. At 4 pm,
all the students met at a common spot nearby the Powai Lake and started the activity by 4:30
pm. Policemen along with few volunteers who had been doing this since few years, briefed
the students.
Despite heavy rains, the students happily undertook the responsibility of crowd control.

The students of Rotaract Club of Tolani College of Commerce celebrated Teachers Day by
giving beautiful handmade personalised greeting cards to the teachers.

September, 2016: ROTRACT CLUB
In-Campus Awareness about Dengue
The students of Rotaract Club of Tolani College of Commerce made a small attempt to create
awareness about Dengue and Malaria. The disease carrying mosquitoes breed in stagnant
water and humid climate, leading to spread of the epidemic. The symptoms, preventive and
curative measures were displayed on the ground floor foyer.

Talk on Breast Cancer and Cervical Cancer by Dr. Ajay Kolse, Consultant Radiation
Oncologist at the Holy Spirit Hospital
CWDC organised a talk on Breast Cancer and Cervical Cancer by Dr. Ajay Kolse [MBBS,
MD (Radio Therapy)], Consultant Radiation Oncologist at the Holy Spirit Hospital. A group
of 127 students of F.Y.B.Com class attended the talk and were given information about on
the most common cancers that women in modern times suffer from. Dr. Ajay briefed the
students about the symptoms, advancement of cancer, its effects and the various medical
treatments at different stages of cancer. The doctor stressed that awareness about these
cancers can help early detection of the disease and enhance the chances of full recovery.

2. I.T. INFRASTRUCTURE:
The College Management is progressive and encourages the use of technology in teaching-
learning, library management and administration. Provisions are made in the perspective
plans for deploying and upgrading the IT infrastructure and associated facilities. The number
of nodes with Internet facilities has increased from 177 to 193.

3. ENHANCED INFRASTRUCTURE
The College has augmented the facilities in the Rifle Shooting Range. Additional space was
created for armour room and the changing room near the gymnasium. For details refer to the

CRITERION 5: STUDENT SUPPORT AND PROGRESSION:
1. INSTITUTIONAL SCHOLARSHIPS/ FREESHIPS GIVEN TO
THE STUDENTS:
The College Management is munificent and believes in recognizing excellence and
meritorious performance of learners. A system has been developed, which ensures that
financial aid in the form of scholarships and freeships are disbursed on time. For details refer
to the table given below:
Details of institutional scholarships/freeships
Ca-Fee Hu Scholarship: The scholarship was constituted out of the donation received
from Mr. Ca-Fee-Hu, friend of the Tolani family. These scholarships are awarded to
learners for overall meritorious performance.

Fee waiver for Excellence in sports: Learners excelling at District, State and National
level sports events are given a waiver of tuition fees.

Students’ Aid Fund: Students’ Aid Fund is used to provide financial assistance to
learners belonging to economically disadvantaged sections.

Government Scholarships: College facilitates the process of obtaining scholarships for
eligible learners belonging to reserved category.

3. PLACEMENT OF STUDENTS:
College has a structured mechanism for career guidance and placement. The Placement Cell
has prepared a brochure containing an overview of the Institution including courses and
infrastructural facilities etc.; available in the College for prospective recruiters.
Based on the proposal, companies are shortlisted by the placement cell coordinator in
consultation with the Principal. The percentage of students selected during campus interviews
by different employers was 14.7% for the academic year 2014-2015 and 10.47% for the
