• Investments in CIS forecast

to decline after 2017

• ~20 projects ongoing in

2015

• Kazakhstan will be host the

highest-value projects and

will be the first geography,

even though Russia has a

larger project pipeline

• Refining investments in Latin

America will decline ~15% in

2016-2017 compared to

2015

• Mainly driven by the cut in

Petrobras’ investment plan

that was announced in June,

which mainly affected their

downstream business

• Africa will be one of the

highest growth geographies

in 2016-2017

refinery)

NORTH AMERICA EUROPE

• Investments are projected to

grow strongly in 2016-2017

• 30+ projects will be ongoing

in 2016

• Two countries that show

relevant growth are Turkey,

(Aegean and STAR refineries),

and Spain, (expansion

investments in the Huelva

and la Coruña Refineries)

• Investments remaining

constant / slightly in the US

in the next 2 years, while they

present a slight growth in

Canada

• Canada’s investments mainly

driven by oil sands (Fort

McMurray, Sturgeon, …)

• NA is the region with the

smallest average project size

ASIA-PACIFIC

• The region is forecast to

grow in 2016-2017, having

40+ projects ongoing at that

time

• China and India will lead the

region, with China having a

lower number of projects but

of a higher average value

• the third geography for both

number of projects (10) and

total CAPEX (3.4 B USD

2015-2018) is Malaysia

MIDDLE EAST

• Kuwait is the country with

most refining investments in

2015-2018, followed by

Saudi Arabia and the United

Arab Emirates

• Large-sized projects drive

this trend (e.g. Clean Fuels in

Kuwait and Jazan in KSA)

• ME is the region with the

largest average project size
