SUPPLY CHAIN MANAGEMENTSUMMER SCHOOLWelcome! The Supply Chain Management Summer School offers an ideal opportunity for a selected group of highly-motivated and talented students from the National University of Singapore and the University of Applied Sciences Upper Austria to experience challenging real business cases and workshops in the field of Supply Chain Management. This intensive, two-week programme was designed in cooperation with The Logistics Institute (TLI) - Asia Pacific and combines sophisticated theory with hands-on practical experience in industry. We really look forward to meeting you, to a lively exchange of views, and to a successful SCM future!Prof. Dr. Markus Gerschberger This Supply Chain Management Summer School is adopting a case-based learning approach with workshops and case studies conducted by professors from the LOGISTIKUM. It is well known that the LOGISTIKUM provides educational content with high practical industrial relevance and innovative solutions for companies with state-of-the art expertise. Therefore, I believe the Summer School will provide a unique and enriching experiential learning opportunity for NUS students to gain a broader understanding and insight into European logistics and supply chains. At the same time, it will also provide great opportunities for networking between students of NUS and University of Applied Sciences Upper Austria. This will in turn help to promote international cooperation of partners throughout the value chain which is of fundamental importance for the future economy (especially for Singapore).Prof. Tan Kok Choon, PhD

Industry Producer of plastic recycling systems – global leader

Case lecture Prof. Markus Gerschberger

Case content This case focuses on supplier management through quantitative and qualitative analysis of data from a real company. In the process of solving the case, students have to determine and operationalize what constitutes a critical supplier and materials, make sense of the data provided, and identify the most critical materials and develop purchasing strategies.

Case EREMA: We close the loop

Topics treated in this case Supplier managementPerformance measurementQualitative and quantitative data analysis

Venue of the workshop: Port of Enns including port and company visit as well as theoretical input in an interactive setting. Transport cases will be handed out (one day). Final work out and presentation of transport cases happens at the University of Applied Sciences Upper Austria, Campus Steyr (1/2 day).

Workshop lecture Lisa-Maria Putz, MA

Workshop content The workshop focuses on efficient multimodal transport planning with regard to cost, time and CO2 emissions. Students receive a theoretical introduction on multimodal transport and on European waterways (focus Danube). Based on this information they will simulate an optimized transport solution on the LEGO-transhipment simulator. Following to a port visit as well as a company tour they will receive a transport case which they have to work out and present individually on day two at the University of Applied Sciences Upper Austria, Campus Steyr.

Industry Logistics provider in grocery industry

Case lecture Prof. Hans-Christian Graf

Case TKL

Although the consumption of classical frozen food is stable since several years there is a constant change in the European frozen food market. New products or product lines appear and market players change. Because frozen food logistics is one of the most expensive food supply chains, retailers tend to outsource this specific field. The Austrian TKL group acts as neutral logistics provider for international producers and regional retailers. To meet the challenges of the market and to achieve best service levels a logistics solution has to be analyzed and improved for: imports of frozen products, central/decentral warehousing, shop distribution to more than 1000 outlets and for gastronomy businesses.

Case lecture Prof. Markus Gerschberger

Case content This case focuses on customer relationship management. The idea is that different customer requirements lead to different logistics services needed to satisfy customers. Different logistics services create different costs and therefore should be billed to customers. Idea of this case is that students develop a procedure on how to systematically create channels and logically assign customers through quantitative and qualitative analysis of data from a real company. Finally costs per ton of steel per channel have to be calculated.

SightseeingThe program includes trips to Hallstatt and Vienna. The trip to Hallstatt will be a one-day event, while the trip to Vienna will to last three days.

Hallstatt

Hallstatt is famous for its scenic landscape and historic buildings and in 1997, Hallstatt was even declared a UNESCO World Heritage site. A town so beautiful that the Chinese built a full-scale replica of it on the other side of the world. If you want to know more about the city please follow the link http://www.hallstatt.net/about-hallstatt/.

We will depart from Steyr Thursday morning (15th of June) by bus, the costs for the bus ride are covered by the University of Applied Sciences Upper Austria. After arriving in Hallstatt in the morning, the suggested schedule for the day is as followed:• 09:00 a.m.: Ascent with the Hallstatt funicular railway• 09:30 a.m.: Guided tour of the Salzwelten (salt mine)• 11:30 a.m.: Lunch (optional)• 02:00 p.m.: Ascent by Dachstein cable car, guided tour of the giant ice cave or

mammoth cave • 04:00 p.m.: Tour of Hallstatt including the ossuary. Duration: about 1.5 hours.

Afterwards, our bus will take us back to Steyr, where we will arrive at approximately half past eight. The above-mentioned program is € 60,-.

Vienna

The journey (train ride) from Steyr to Vienna (and back) has to be organized individually. The normal price range for a train ticket is between € 40,- and € 80,-. However, if you book the tickets well in advance the prices can be as low as € 20,- for a return ticket. So, please ask your buddy in due time to get informed about the different ticket options.

We recommend departing from Steyr in the afternoon of Friday the 16th of June. That way you will get to enjoy the city and it won’t be a problem to make it to the meeting point at the castle of Schönbrunn in time the next day. Because on Saturday, the 17th of June a sightseeing tour is planned. After getting to know the city together on day 1, you will have time to explore Vienna individually on the second day.

Vienna, the capital of Austria has always played an important role in the different phases of the European history due to its location in the centre of Europe. This is certainly also a reason for the many different impressive buildings, monuments and parks. Regarding life quality, Vienna leads the 2016 Quality of Living Ranking by the international Mercer Consulting Group for the seventh consecutive year.Major tourist attractions include the imperial palaces of the Hofburg and Schönbrunn (also home to the world’s oldest zoo, Tiergarten Schönbrunn) and the Ferris wheel at Prater (amusement park). The most popular museums are Albertina, Belvedere, the twin museums Kunsthistorisches Museum and Naturhistorisches Museum, and the Technisches Museum Wien.

Mr. Hans-Christian Graf will give more detailed information on the various sights during the day.

Buddy SystemWe have two main objectives that we would like to achieve with our buddy network: providing help to the students participating in the summer school program and encouraging networking among students. After your application, your assigned buddy will get in touch with you via e-mail. The ratio between local and exchange students will depend on the number of registrations of incomings and those of locals. It is possible that some buddies support more than one incoming student. Your buddy will be a student from one of the following degree programs: International Logistics Management (Bachelor) or Supply Chain Management (Master)

Before your arrival and during your stay your buddy will support you with:• Transport arrangements from/to the airport• Linguistic support• Cultural guidance• Tips for activities in the different cities (Steyr, Vienna, Hallstatt,…)

Due to the assumption that the students will arrive individually, we recommend to clarify specific questions with your buddy. Please find general information on travel options below. Your buddies can surely support you in booking activities, train rides etc. and can help you find the best prices.
