Independent living. With a little support from you.

As a supported living support worker, you will experience the difference a new skill or new found independence can make to someone’s life. Working closely with them, in their own home, you’ll have the opportunity to build a unique relationship. You’ll be an important part of the individual’s life, enabling them to become more independent and active within their community. The rewards and satisfaction this creates will be hard to match.

Ok, it has its demanding side and you’ll come across some challenging situations from time to time. But helping those you support overcome these will make your job even more rewarding. You could make a real difference.

The role As part of a wider team that provides physical and emotional support both day and night to the individual within their own home, you will work to maintain a stable, happy and caring environment that ensures the health, safety and welfare of the person you support. Regular and punctual attendance is a basic and essential requirement, as is the need to be professional and a good role model. Supporting those with complex needs will require you to be flexible and adaptable.

Typical support worker qualitiesIt takes a unique person to be a good support worker. Honesty and integrity are the foundations and you’ll need to be the kind of person who’s naturally:

A good communicator Patient Empathetic Supporting Resilient Reassuring Calm.

Robert’s storyRobert was one of the first people to use our Supported Living Service.

“The rewards of working for the Hesley Group are that you can see the progression of the people you are working with on a day to day basis as they develop their independent living skills.”

What our support workers say

“I’ve always wanted to live in my own house. The first time I answered my own front door I remembered thinking this is the best I’ve felt in a long time.”

Specialist support - every step of the way Founded in 1975, the Hesley Group is dedicated to supporting people with autism, complex needs, challenging behaviours and severe learning difficulties. To do this we have built a leading service around specialist expertise, first-class facilities and resources. It allows us to offer a safe environment in which individually tailored care, educational/vocational opportunities, encouragement and positive therapies are all used to help each person to develop a range of skills and maximise their potential.

Our services include:

Schools and children’s servicesOur two schools offer day schooling and residential care up to the age of 19. Both offer a wide range of classes and activities designed to support achievement in the lives of young people that use the service. Wilsic Hall School is set in its own grounds and Fullerton House School is in the heart of the community.

Adult residentialOur three sites in South Yorkshire offer high quality accommodation and facilities for people aged 18 plus. Each has all the support infrastructure in place to allow every person to follow their individual care pathway, based on their unique needs. This enables them to work towards achieving a more independent life.

Supported livingOur supported living service, Community Solutions, enables adults with complex needs to live independently in accommodation of their choice within the community. Our staff help to create a network of support services to meet the individual’s needs and aspirations.

Hesley Group Corporate Values Person Centred, Outcome Focused and Quality DrivenWe treat every person that uses our service as an individual.
