Title VI / Environmental Justice

• Part of the Civil Rights Act of 1964, Title VI requires all recipients of federal funding to demonstrate how they have ensured that their projects do not disproportionally affect minorities and low income populations

• Expanded to also include populations with Limited English Proficiency

• Washington Department of Transportation (WSDOT) requires local jurisdictions to establish a Title VI Plan, which details how jurisdictions will implement their Title VI responsibilities

• Initial approach utilized several PDF map series

• Proved inefficient / awkward

Javascript API

Why Javascript API?• Access to ArcGIS Server resources• Some previous Javascript experience• Browser based tool – no licensing issuesGoal-• Make it easier (and friendlier) to access demographic data• Incorporate capital projection information• Generate “one click” demographic reports• Generate “quick & dirty” maps
