Project Background
In 2008 JISC began its “Business & Community Engagement (BCE) Programme” to support institutions in their strategic management of relationships with external partners and clients
This project “Training, CPD and Staff Exchange” is one of several under the BCE Programme
It was also very aware of the Government's agenda to build the knowledge economy, and in response to a growing understanding that the emerging profession of ‘Knowledge Transfer’ was fragmented and lacking in agreed frameworks for skills assessments and standards
Where doe BCE fit in an HEI ?
BCE could involve: Innovation and knowledge exchange Strategic partnerships with business Workforce development and lifelong learning Public and community engagement Employer engagement External Service provision and delivery
Examples of Institutional BCE Activities
• Consultancy services• Collaborative research; Contract research• Start-up companies and spin-off companies• CPD and training services• Workforce development services; Work-based learning; Work

The Project objectives
Determining the support and enhancement needs of the existing BCE training provision and the target BCE practitioners
Designing, in consultation with key stakeholders a JISC BCE Training Support Package
Piloting, co-delivering and evaluating the JISC BCE Training Support Package, in partnership with the appropriate training, accreditation and collaborative bodies
Project methodology
The project contained three phases: Phase 1 (July-Oct 2008): Planning and consultation Phase 2 (Nov 2008-Mar 2009): Conducting a training
needs analysis using a range of qualitative and quantitative methods, and designing the Training Support Package
Phase 3 (Apr 2009 – Jun 2010): Delivery and evaluation of the Training Support Package
