My dad used to tellme some reasons for
weird happenings in the alleged ghost
houses.
(1)Due to seasoning and climatic changes
expansion and contraction of wood can
happen. Temperaturevariationsmakethe
newwoods dry and eventually doors and
windows can slightly openby themselves.
The slight movements of doors and
windows will lead to creaking noise
especiallyintheoddhours.
(2)Inhotweather,thesunononesideofthe
house will make the wall hotter than the
other side. Noises are more common at
night when the most rapid change in
temperature occurs at night. Trapped air
pockets in pipes and lowing water also
producestrangenoisesatnight.
(3) A newly cleaned window leading to
relections and distortions in peripheral
vision can cause signs ofmovement. The
human imagination creates patterns and
fantasticshapesonwindowpanes.
(4)Scratchingandnestingofrodentsonthe
roofareothersourcesofstrangenoiseinthe
dark.Nightbirdslikeowlmaytakeshelteron
yourrooftoptoeattheirpreyundisturbed.
Thenocturnalactivitiesintheroofcanalso
be frightening in the silence of night. The
callsofsomefrogs,catsandcaninessound
like human conversation and they are the
irst-line offenders in the list especially in
theirmatingseasons.
