Project Description

Project BackgroundThe City of Missouri City is responding to groundwater reduction goals established by the Fort Bend County Subsidence District. In cooperation with public water systems within Missouri City’s ETJ, a Groundwater Use Reduction Plan is being developed to meet the required conversion from groundwater to surface water. The Groundwater Use Reduction Plan identifies the municipal utility districts (MUDs) comprising Sienna Plantation for the initial conversion from groundwater to surface water as the source of potable water supply. Other public water systems within Missouri City’s ETJ will be targeted for conversion in future years as required to meet groundwater use reduction goals.

The new plant will be constructed on property to be owned and controlled by the City of Missouri City. The new plant will supply water to a number of municipal utility districts in the area.

The raw water source for the new Missouri City plant consists of raw surface water from the Brazos River segment number 1202 by way of the Briscoe Canal, owned and operated by the Gulf Coast Water Authority (GCWA). The raw water intake point for the new source will be the Briscoe Canal. No treatment of any kind is currently present at the source intake point.

Project Pilot Study

The location for the pilot testing systems will be at the Gulf Coast Water Authority’s Briscoe Canal Intake. The intake location is fenced, with adequate power and adequate ancillary services available.The pilot testing will serve a valuable purpose for design of the disinfection protocol. Pilot testing may also reveal benefits associated with use of UV/peroxide in the finished water.

Pilot Study

Membrane Filtration Pilot Study Protocol for the City of Missouri City Water Treatment Plant was prepared to collect essential information necessary to design the new 10 million gallon per day (mgd) surface water treatment plant. The Protocol has been structured to generate essential information for design of pretreatment , membrane, post‐membrane and disinfection systems for the facility.
